In honor of San Diego’s annual Restaurant Week, this article has been re-published to add new recipe apps for preparing great food, virtually and in real life.
There are many different genres of games for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Food games have been some of the most popular amongst the genres and many have even hit the Apps Store’s top ten lists. Number two on the paid list is Fruit Ninja ($0.99), a fun game for all ages where you can slice pieces of fruit like… well, like a ninja! As you unlock more slicing blades and backgrounds, you earn point that can make your slicing more exciting.
Bakery Story: Christmas (free), Cooking Mama ($3.99), and Diner Dash (free or $2.99 for all levels) are all games that are great for those of us who love making food and building restaurants in games. Other games such as Mini Cafe and Tiny Chef (both free) are much like Bakery Story where you are started with a small restaurant, and a few recipes and as you level up, more recipes and furniture are unlocked.
If food with a side of action/adventure is more your style, games like Sky Burger (free), Burger Drop (free and similar to Sky Burger), and Bring Me Sandwiches!! ($0.99) are right up your alley. Sky Burger and Burger Drop consist of missions where the player must acquire all of the ingredients in the order before they add a bun, or else they have to start from scratch. Bing Me Sandwiches!!, a newer game, has been very popular as seen by its 4 1/2 star rating. The game sets the player as a waiter who has to collect pieces of sandwiches for hungry alien invaders!
