Martin is a researcher who just arrived in a foreign country for a conference when he is in a car accident. Regaining consciousness a few days later in the hospital he finds nobody has come looking for him. And when he finds his wife, another man is impersonating Martin as her husband which she doesn’t seem to notice.
Liam Neeson (Martin Harris), Diane Krueger (Gina), January Jones (Elizabeth), Aidan Quinn (Martin), Bruno Ganz (Ernst), Frank Langella (Rodney), Sebastian Koch (Bressler), Olivier Schneider (Smith), Stipe Erceg (Jones).
Unknown gets into the story pretty quick without wasting time on character development or background. Things immediately go out of control for Martin and we are quickly as confused as he is about what may have happened while he was unconscious. As the story progresses a nice twist brings thing back together for everyone, though it isn’t quite the happen ending all had hoped for. In the end, the film does provide the happy ending but sadly, that is also when the film starts to disappoint by suspending reality.
Acting was pretty good with Neeson actually delivering decent emotion. Krueger was a nice compliment to Neeson and helped keep the story moving. Jones did nicely as did Quinn. Langella and Koch were both good additions as antagonists.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds were good and the film felt like it had a nice budget. Effects were primarily physical and nicely done throughout. Dialogue was good and moved the story along well. Sound and soundtrack were both good.
Overall Unknown is a decent Thriller though some mild suspension of reality is needed toward the end. The story moves along well and remains interesting, despite the unrealistic ending. Thriller fans will enjoy this the most with fans of psychological thrillers likely enjoying it as well.
With some extreme violence, action, and mild sexuality this should be fine for older teens and above.
Unknown is no longer showing in any Littleton Colorado movie theatres.
