Imagine if the NFL was controlled by the almighty powers of the BCS. or Bowl Championship Series and NFL teams were ranked according to their standards.
The BCS Standings determine the two College Football teams that qualify to play in the BCS National Championship Game. The BCS also determines any other automatic qualifiers and establishes a pool of eligible teams for an at-large selection.
The controversial standings are released for eight consecutive weeks each season. They include three components: USA Today Coaches Poll, Harris Interactive College Football Poll and an average of six computer rankings. Each component counts as one-third of a team’s overall BCS score in the standings.
For the NFL Power rankings let’s take NFL.com, ESPN.com, FoxSports.com, and Yahoo.com‘s power rankings and count them as if the BCS would putting them into NFL Bowl games.
BCS National Championship (Jan 9, 2012) New Orleans, LA
BCS No. 1 vs BCS No. 2 / Projection: Green Bay Packers (1) vs. San Francisco 49ers (2)
Can anyone beat the Packers? If it was up to the BCS Standings it would be up the San Francisco 49ers to give it everything they have to try and stop the Packers from winning their second straight Super Bowl or National Championship.
Discover Orange Bowl (Jan. 4th, 2012) Miami Gardens, FL
AFC No. 1 Ranked vs BCS At Large / Projection: Pittsburgh Steelers (3.25) vs. New Orleans Saints (4.5)
It would be the classic match up of offense verses defense as the Steelers defense would have to find a way to stop Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints.
Allstate Sugar Bowl (Jan. 3rd, 2012) New Orleans, LA
AFC East vs BCS at Large / Projection: New England Patriots (5.5) vs. Houston Texans (6.25)
With the recent news of Houston losing quarterback Matt Schaub expect the Texans to fall dramatically under the leadership of former USC quarterback Matt Leinart.
Tostitos Fiesta Bowl (Jan. 2nd, 2012) Glendale, AZ
NFC East vs BCS at Large / Projection: New York Giants (7.75) vs Chicago Bears (7.25)
Two teams that can bring anything to the table but would the Giants pass rush be too much for Jay Culter and company?
Rose Bowl Game presented by VIZIO (Jan. 2nd, 2012) Pasadena, CA
