These videos detail the continuing drama surrounding Bishop Eddie Long, and the fact that his New Birth Christian Academy School is being shut down.
“It’s almost like they waited for the holidays,” said one parent who didn’t want to be identified – but reported that she received her letter informing her of the closing a mere two days before Christmas.
Some parents don’t know where their children will attend school in January, however, others are remaining positive.
“Children are resilient. Everything happens according to God’s plan,” said one parent by phone.
Bishop Long’s church is not blaming the closing on their pastor’s scandal where he was accused of sexual wrongdoing with young men – they are pointing to the economic conditions instead.
In a statement, New Birth said the closing is temporary, and that it will do everything in its power to reopen in the future.
One parent reported that the school has dropped from an attendance of about 300 students to less than 100 – but said that she kept her kids there because the teachers are great.
None of this has anything to do with the sex allegations with Bishop Eddie Long, said spokesman Art Franklin, yet another anonymous parent begs to differ.
“I believe that this last straw with the divorce, the sealed settlement, it just does not look good. I really believe that people continued to take their children out as each allegation unfolded month after month,” she said.
No word yet on what will happen with the registration fees were paid for the entire year.
