Training in the Martial Arts is a holistic journey but for now lets focus on the mind body aspects. We train to be ready for the unexpected circumstances in life, to defend our loved ones or ourselves. To have self-discipline and self-control, to better ourselves each and everyday we live. We our a product of our training efforts, we get out what we put in no matter what form of arts or skills we study. Question to be at your best in life or at the level of Mastery is that skill alone or knowledge of technique alone, or maybe just the ability to teach alone, what about just being focused or in great shape physically and able to produce similar results in others all it takes to achieve that level of life? Of course that’s not the case right? We have to have a balanced combination of all of these attributes and more to master life or to master our true nature and ourselves.
So on the mental and physical side of things we must have the ability to focus on a goal with determination and self discipline in order to persevere past physical obstacles or challenging ourselves to step further and further outside our current comfort zones in order to gain optimal levels of fitness in these areas right?
So how does the average martial artist that does not attend a school or is not part of an organization that places focus on these areas to the levels necessary to become their best and achieve these desired results? Well there are a few different avenues one can take. You can spend countless hours into research on the best methods of training, you could hire a personal trainer that is trained in these areas, or you could try a home program that has shown proven results in hundreds of cases.
Lets start with doing your own research, this may seem like a great idea at first until you start the search to find out you may not even know what you are trying to find, may not be familiar with common industry jargon and terminology. Even better yet you find great information but have no idea how to properly use it or how to develop a program that can produce results and maintain motivation to achieve your goals.
With a personal trainer on the other hand this individual may have great knowledge and produce great results. Make sure to take into consideration that this person may charge anywhere from $30- $75 dollars an hour. On top of that this individual may not be able to meet your schedule consistently and may still not give you the results you desire in a time frame that works for you.
A home program that has shown proven results and success on the other hand may be the most efficient use of your finances and time. Think about it the research has already been done for you. The program is already designed and laid out for you to follow. Many before you have proved the results some even with great testimonials included with before and after pictures of their personal achievements during the program, you have the flexibility to do the workout when it fits into your day. Even better you pay for it one time and you own it as long as it survives the test of time.
