The tough economic times that we are living in right now are probably having an effect on your holiday budget. Here are 12 gift ideas that can be made using very little money. Most of them take only a few minutes to complete. These gift ideas are sure to be a hit with any child.
1. Tub toy assortment
Fill a small sized bucket with various sized empty plastic containers (from drink mixes, yogurt containers, pudding cups, etc.) Kids love pouring from one cup into another and this is sure to provide a lot of fun.
2. Beaded bracelet
Take a 10 inch piece of yarn, tie one end then fill up with beads. When finished tie both ends together to close.
3. Homemade playdoh
Combine 2 cups flour, 2 cups water, 1 tbsp. cooking oil, 1 tsp. cream of tartar, 1 cup of salt, and food coloring (about 20 drops) in a large pot. Cook on medium-high heat until the mixture thickens. Remove from stove and store in covered plastic container.
4. Pen holder
Decorate the outside of an aluminum can (make sure there are no sharp edges) with paint. Personalize it to fit your child’s tastes. For example paint various sports, animals, flowers, etc.
5. No sew blanket for a doll
Use two 1yd. x 1yd. size fleece squares. For each, cut out 4 inch x 4 inch square out of each corner (discard these). Cut 4 inch slits, each 1 inch apart around each edge of the fleece. Now take both pieces and lay them back to back one on top of the other. Tie top fleece to bottom fleece using two knots. Continue around until blanket is complete.
6. Pillow case
Decorate a pillow case with puffy paint. Get creative use lots of colors and designs.
7. Rubber band ball
Roll a sheet of aluminum foil into a ball 2-3 inches in diameter. Take rubber bands one at a time and place around the ball. Keep alternating the directions of the rubber bands until the ball is as big as you would like.
Take an empty large drink mix container (make sure there are no sharp edges) and cover the outside of it with construction paper. Add stickers to personalize the bank. Cut a slit in the lid large enough for coins to pass through.
9. Felt board
Glue a large piece of felt onto a sturdy piece of cardboard. Cut up several shapes and colors of felt to be used to apply to the board to make a picture
10. Coloring book
Print out 10-15 coloring sheets from the internet. Punch holes in the pages and attach with decorative ribbon.
11. Activity book
Print out various games from the internet including tic-tac-toe, word search puzzles, fill in the blanks, connect the dots and more. Place all of the sheets in a personalized folder.
12. Craft basket
Fill a medium sized basket with craft materials such as yarn, glue, stickers, paints, paintbrushes, etc. Attach a decorative bow to complete.
