19 Kids and Counting closed out season eight last night on TLC and the episode highlighted the Duggar family’s touching trip to Israel and Josie Duggar’s health issue while abroad. The expanded 60-minute show was fans’ last opportunity to catch the super-sized Duggar family on TLC in 2011.
The Duggars toured the holy land of Israel last night. Several family members were baptized in the Dead Sea and it was a touching experience for the family and fans alike. They shopped in an outdoor market for trinkets to take home to Arkansas. Everyone, except Michelle and Josie, explored the Garden Tomb, which is believed by many to be the final resting place of Jesus. The Duggar children were so touched by the experience that they spontaneously began singing “Amazing Grace.” The bible came to life for the spiritual Duggar family and it was a joy to see.
However, there was a pretty big bump in the road when Josie Duggar fell ill while in Israel. The tiny tot began to run a fever and had so much congestion that a visit to Terem Emergency Medical Center was in order. “We heard that Israel has good medical care, but we just didn’t know what to expect,” Michelle Duggar explained on camera. After x-raying Josie, the pediatrician deemed Josie’s illness as viral and recommended that she stay in Israel, instead of flying home that night. “I wouldn’t fly. I’d give it a couple days,” the pediatrician told a concerned Michelle.
Jim Bob flew home that night with the rest of the family, while Michelle and Jill stayed behind with Josie. They gave the pretty patient rounds of supplemental oxygen for several days, but finally flew home a week later, after deciding to take along the doctor – just in case something happened on the long journey home. In the end, the super-sized Duggar family was reunited after their once-in-a-lifetime trip abroad.
Note from the Editor: It has been my pleasure to once again cover the Duggar family from 19 Kids and Counting. My personal highlights of this season were meeting Jim Bob, Michelle and all nineteen children when they were in Atlanta for a book signing and speaking several times to Amy Duggar. Be sure to check back here for regular updates on the Duggar family during the off-season. Thanks for being a loyal reader.
