The latest new episode of 19 Kids & Counting aired last night and the show featured the spring tornadoes in Birmingham and the Duggar family’s efforts to rebuild homes through a Habitat for Humanity program. “Our family is always looking for ways to service others,” Jim Bob Duggar said on last night’s episode. They did just that.
Discovery Communications partnered with Habitat for Humanity to rebuild the homes of some of the Birmingham tornado victims. Jim Bob Duggar and 17 of his 19 children helped out with the project that also involved 125 employees from Discovery. Reed Timmer and Tim Samaras from Storm Chasers also joined the rebuild team. The two were in the area on that dreadful day when the violent storms struck the Southeast. Reed Timmer said, “We were around Tuscaloosa that day. We saw at least 4-5 violent tornadoes rip through this community.” Tim Samaras added, “It was a very scary day. We looked at the forecast that morning and we thought ‘Oh my God. This community is in trouble’”.
Governor Robert Bentley and David Salmoni from Animal Planet were also on hand to assist the tornado victims. The Burchfield and Roberts families were very thankful for the Habitat for Humanity project and everyone involved, including the super-sized Duggar family. While the older Duggars worked on the new homes, the younger children made personalized flowerpots. Upon receiving several of the pots filled with flowers, victim Anngiquetta Canada said tearfully, “It’s amazing that everybody cares so much.”
The COO of Discovery Communications said on last night’s episode of 19 Kids & Counting, “This is not a devastation of houses. This is a devastation of families. What family better represents family values and sticking together through thick and thin than the Duggars?”
Fans may have noticed that all of the Duggars wore red shirts during last night’s episode. These shirts were specially designed with 19 stick figures representing the 19 Duggar children. They are available for sale on TLC.com and from now until December 31st, $10.50 from each shirt sale will be donated to support Habitat for Humanity.
