While 2011 has been a year of surprising celebrity breakups, it has also been a year to celebrate the celebrity couples who have managed to keep it together through all of the hype and pressure of Tinsel Town.
One of the most shocking divorces of the year was when former governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger and Kennedy Heiress, Maria Shriver announced they would end their 25 years of marriage. It ended when Schwarzenegger admitted a long time affair with the couple’s former housekeeper that produced a love child.
The recent and shocking break-up of former NBA player Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian officially called it quits just weeks after their nuptials. The two were married for just 72 days before Kardashian, 31, issued a press statement Oct. 31 announcing she was filing for divorce. The move was said to have blindsided Humphries who responded with a statement of his own, saying, “I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce.”
Another recent break-up that seemed to take most people by surprise was actor Ashton Kutcher and actress Demi Moore. According to Radar, Ashton was at a San Diego club with another woman on the same weekend of his six-year wedding anniversary. Star Magazine reported that Kutcher and Moore have separated as a result of his alleged constant cheating.
A surprising split in 2011 was when singers Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony announced an amicable divorce after seven years of what seemed like marital bliss. The couple has twins Max and Emme. Anthony refused to shoot his Latin reality TV show with his soon-to-be ex-wife because of her new relationship with 24-year-old backup dancer Casper Smart.
While there weren’t any signs that actress Scarlet Johansson and her actor husband Ryan Reynolds were having any personal difficulties, after being married for just two years they finalized their divorce this summer.
What seemed to be a beautiful merger of musical talentent, singing sensation Christina Aguilera and music producer, Jordan Bratman filed for divorce in 2011. The couple shares a 3-year-old son, Max.
Playboy mogul Hugh Hefner and Crystal Harris broke-up just days before a lavish wedding ceremony was to take place at the Playboy mansion. Harris said she got cold feet because she knew she wouldn’t be the only one in Hef’s life.
While they made a gorgeous couple, actor George Clooney and supermodel Elisabetta Canalis broke up after Canalis said during an interview she wanted to marry and have children eventually. Clooney who has said numerous times he would not ever marry again or have children caused the couple to end their relationship over opposing viewpoints.
