There’s something about December 31st that compels us to create lists that neatly sum up the year’s highs and lows.
We are not good at lists, tidy or otherwise. And we have long held that this area has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to original theatre. So the idea of creating a new list of ‘bests’ seems a bit superficial, if not outright arrogant.
Even so … taking some holiday advice from Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney, we can’t help but count our blessings, and reflect on the wonderful local theatre available to people who live in Southeastern Michigan.
No doubt, you have your favorites. Here are some of the shows that came to mind when thinking about productions that surprised, delighted, engaged, enraptured, tickled, tricked and otherwise charmed this theatre fan. Even now, we’d like to see each of them again.
