Hi folks the other night I had the opportunity to sit down and chat with an up and coming artist in our area, Pittsburgh born and Cleveland musically bred, Ms. Diana Chittester. She is a singer songwriter that is not you run of the mill singer songwriter. She’s aggressive and in your face, yet tender and loving. The following is a excerpt of our conversation.
Reporter: When do you first feel you wanted to play music?
Diana: Between the ages of 14 and 21.
Reporter: How do you describe your music?
Diana: I am kind of the love child between Ani DiFranco and Jewel.
Reporter: If you couldn’t play music, what would you do?
Diana: I would teach music and or creative writing, and I would seek creative ways to present things to the kids, you know make it interesting.
Reporter: How much of your personal life is in your music?
Diana: A lot. I use music to sort out things that I question in life like, family, relationships, religion etc. And I hope that my music will cause others to question things and hopefully make them feel better.
Reporter: How do you feel before you go on?
Diana: Nervous, I like to take a shot of tequila. It adds to the energy.
Reporter: If you were to go to see you, how would you feel after the show?
Diana: I think wow she has a different approach to playing the acoustic guitar! I would be entertained I know it may sound a little conceded, but if you don’t think you sound good, you shouldn’t be there.I also would think, I will remember that artist, at least her first name (smile), that last name is kinda’ hard to pronounce.
Reporter: How do you prepare for a show?
Diana: Lots of practice, lots of promotion and just preparing a list. I like to make my list once I get to the venue. I try to get a feel for what the room is like and what the crowd is feeling.
Reporter: What is your favorite Diana song?
Diana: Betrayed, It’s about a past relationship. It’s full of emotion.
Reporter: Who or what do you like to listen to?
Diana: I like female guitar players such as Kristine Jackson, of course Ani DiFranco, Michael Jackson, woman that rock out and stuff with a pop beat.
Reporter: Who do you want to be like (besides yourself) if you had to chose?
Diana: Well M.J. or Ani or Kelly Richey.
Reporter: So where can we see you next?
Diana: The House of Blues in bueatiful downtown Cleveland on the 23rd of November in the Cambridge room with my brand new band, along with The winner of the Tri-C High School Rock Off Jordon Genovese, from Akron Angie Haze and from N.Y. Bill Grady. Tickets are only $10.00, and if you order presale then you will get a cd of all four artist plus other merchandise.
Reporter: Well that sounds like a great deal, so how do we get your music?
Diana: Go to DianaChittester.com and starting in Dec. on the smart phone.
