I had a wonderful Christmas, and got almost everything I wanted, but not all. Monday morning came and I woke to a nation (and community) still swarming with illegal aliens. So I’ll turn my attention to the New Year, and all the attendant hope a flawed Republican presidential field can offer.
Numbers USA offers a detailed breakdown of each presidential candidate’s stance on illegal immigration here. A quick review of their report shows Michele Bachmann to be head and shoulders above the other contenders on this issue, a national crisis. Bachmann has voted against the Dream Act, spoken in favor of eliminating birth right citizenship for “anchor babies” and promoted the notion of deportation (in stages) of all illegal aliens. She has also come out in favor of border security, to include fence completion, boots on the ground and accessing all other available resources.
A recent report from I.C.E. illustrates the futility of any anti-illegal immigration stance that does not begin with effectively securing our borders. During a four day operation in the San Jose area last week, I.C.E. Rounded up 63 more criminal aliens, a few worthy of special attention. There was a 49 year old child molester. There was also a 29 year old with prior convictions for kidnapping and cocaine possession. There was one who was convicted (and sentenced to six months in prison) earlier this year on felony possession of heroine for sale charges. And there was the 48 year old woman with 13 aliases and prior convictions for forgery and misuse of an entry document. Each of these criminal aliens are Mexican nationals.
While every criminal alien is of concern, we’ll focus on the 48 year old Mexican woman with the lucky 13 aliases, for she has already been removed from the United States not once, twice or even three times, but 5 times! No better example exists of why security of our borders is so critical. Far too many aliens thumb their nose at our laws not only on their initial illegal entry but on subsequent criminal re-entries. In essence, the time, energy, money involved in rounding up such aliens is wasted for our government’s negligence, not to mention the risk our federal agent’s are subjected to during such round ups. Without an effectively implemented border security plan, the significant cost of deporting aliens would be more resources and time wasted (read money), as many would simply reenter the country as easily as they had entered the first time.
So, 2012, here’s my wish list for the presidential candidate who will carry this anti-illegal immigration flag forward.
As a start, a specific time frame for completion of a fence along our southern border should be set, with significant military and increased border patrol presence immediately. Let’s use a fictional time frame of two years for fence completion. Upon announcement of the project’s start, aliens in our midst could be given this projected time to get their affairs in order, giving them ample time to sell property and such. Upon expiration of the grace period, any aliens apprehended should face mandatory forfeiture of property.
Legislation should also be passed preventing reentry, permanently, of any apprehended aliens.
Declaring war on employers who hire aliens is the next step, as many aliens will leave of their own accord when the jobs dry up. Most are already on the E-verify bandwagon, but let’s heed Congressman Lou Barletta’s warning and be sure that state’s can take action if the federal government does not.
Speaking of Congressman Barletta, another step would be to withhold federal funding from sanctuary cities, an idea promoted recently by Newt Gingrich (as if it was his own). This would force liberal thinking alien apologists such as New Haven Mayor John DeStefano to cooperate with federal authorities attempting to identify and deport aliens, rather than welcoming the aliens and assisting them in establishing identities in the community.
Declare English not only our national language but the only language which government forms are available. To quote Teddy Roosevelt, “The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, or preventing all possibility of its continuing as a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities and languages.” Enough said?
End the practice of issuing Individual Tax Identification Numbers (ITINs) to illegal aliens. Yes, these numbers provide a means by which money earned by aliens can be taxed, but they also provide additional identification and help in regularizing the aliens.
End dual citizenship for all Americans. Every citizen of this great nation needs to be American first and only, with no split loyalties.
Continue to defeat legislation such as the Dream Act and end all existing practices of offering in state tuition rates to children of illegal aliens.
End birth right citizenship for children of illegal aliens.
While we’re at it, consider these two ideas floated by Pat Buchanan; an immediate moratorium of all immigration into America until unemployment drops below 6 percent, and reform our immigration laws to give preferences to those from countries that have historically provided most of our immigrants, who share our values, speak English, have college degrees, bring skills and can be assimilated easily.
As John Lennon once offered, “You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one;” or am I?
