“If Jay-Z’s Fade to Black had a poetry version, this would be it.” This documentary film chronicles the life of poet/MC/Human Beatbox and all around entertainer, Tony Styxx. Featuring Styxx’s September 2011 show performed right at Ball State, while various aspects of Tony’s daily life are mixed in. In his own words, Tony will walk his viewers through his journey as not only an artist, but as a human being; covering the difficulties of his childhood (including the loss of his father and overcoming these very pitfalls by using poety as an inspiration).
Tony was born October 18th, 1987 and raised in the very city that you will hear him proudly claim in the mass majority of his music: Indianapolis. Tony’s first piece of poetry was written in the fifth grade, and it was called “Grandma’s Eyes”. Tony has not stopped working his gifted mind since. This journalist has watched Tony in awe, pacing back and forth in the parking lot of Midtown before a SoulFood Sunday open mic session. The lips of the poet spitting venom quicker than an ambush. Tony finds his gift of words and all other creative talents he supernaturally possesses as a gift from God and a release from the stresses of this world. Tony attended Broad Ripple Magnet School of the Arts and often returns to speak to students, perform, and guide and lead as a mentor to many young men. (http://www.myspace.com/tonystyxx)
The documentary is directed, produced, and written by Joe Clemons (Too Black). All those in attendance will be in store for a touching story that will leave them laughing and crying at the very same time. Anyone who has had to overcome any adversity in their life will find inspiration within the reel to reel reality found inside “All H.A.M. No Pineapples”. There will also be a question and answer session held after the screening of the film.
