It’s been a little while since The Secret Circle tapped into the supernatural beyond witchery, and we’re getting concerned. After seeing the demons they created for “Heather”– and then “Slither”– we know what they’re capable of. And though the tide has turned momentarily, and we are focusing more and more on the interpersonal relationships between characters– families, friends, and love interests– we know something big has to be about to happen any episode now.
“If you explore the good side to magic, you have to explore the dark side. And if you explore the dark side, there’s going to be a lot of things like demons and spirits that mean the kids harm,” The Secret Circle executive producer Andrew Miller teased LA TV Insider Examiner.
“We can expect to see a lot of supernatural dark forces. What’s so exciting to me is that what makes these witches so unique to the supernatural world is that they can tap into the energy of the things around them. And they can use that for good, use that for bad. In doing so, you’ve just got to figure that when you tap into that energy, other people can feel the energy being moved around, and it will attract all kinds of forces– both human and supernatural. There definitely will be other supernatural forces working to try to take their power or manipulate it or use it for their own benefit.”
Miller shared that he will be “mining the books” for some of those dark forces, so we don’t feel the need to issue any sort of spoiler alert here. If you’ve read the books by L.J. Smith, you most likely know what you’re about to see, supernatural elements wise, in the next batch of episodes. However, Miller has plans to keep The Secret Circle around for many, many years, and that being said, he is ready to “find the face of evil in many different forms!”
It’s all in due time, though. There are still a lot of things to learn about the characters and their relationships, and where we will start is with Cassie (Britt Robertson), who has been the key since day one.
“As we move forward…we’re going to see there’s more to Cassie, and part of what makes her special is not just her mom but also her father,” Miller previewed, “and it’s because it’s something she’s been sort of forced to push in the back of her head for the last fifteen or sixteen years, now it’s going to come up, and it becomes a very interesting part of who she is and how she defined herself.”
Right now everyone from Dawn (Natasha Henstridge) to Charles (Gale Harold) and even Ethan (Adam Harrington) believes Cassie’s father died years ago, but Miller teased that “there’s more to the father than we know.” Does that mean he may actually be alive and making an reappearance into Chance Harbor any time soon?
“I was always under the impression Cassie’s father died along with everyone else,” Miller sounded like he may have been smirking a bit.
So we had to tell him our theory: that he faked his death in order to protect his family and friends. And to that Miller simply said “It may be worth keeping all of the options open.” But whether or not the mystery around Cassie’s father will bleed over to present day, Miller is excited to expand the story. We would settle for flashbacks if it meant casting another tall, dark, and brooding handsome man! Hey, it is The CW…
The Secret Circle airs on The CW on Thursday nights at 9pm.
