Back in October, all of East Baltimore was on the lookout for the rapist of a 13-year-old girl who was literally snatched from the 800 block of E. Caroline Street in Baltimore City and dragged into a nearby abandoned home. Thankfully for area residents, the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) announced today the arrest of 51 year-old Alvin Ray Wright Sr. (pictured), for that brutal rape.
Background: On October 17th, just after 9:00 pm, the Baltimore Police Department responded to the 800 block of E. Caroline Street for report of a rape. Upon arrival officers and detectives discovered that a 13 year-old female was sexually assaulted within a vacant home at the location, after being pushed into the basement through decayed first-level flooring.
Detectives began vigorously investigating the case and developed a suspect identity after forensic evidence recovered at the scene matched that of Alvin Ray Wright, Sr. Suspect Wright’s DNA profile was on record as the result of a previous drug arrest. A photo line-up array was compiled and after a positive identification was received, a warrant was sought and subsequently issued for Mr. Wright. Wright was then arrested on the evening of November 23 by members of the Regional Warrant Apprehension Task Force, without notable incident.
According to the BPD:
Old-fashioned, dogged police detective work, coupled with the latest forensic technological processing by the Baltimore Police Crime Laboratory Section, is credited with bringing this case to investigative resolution. The Baltimore Police Department will now be working cooperatively with our criminal justice partners in the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office to ensure Mr. Wright is successfully prosecuted.
Anyone who may recognize Mr. Wright in relation to other assaults or crimes is asked to contact police via 911 immediately.
