I realize that I have been MIA for quite a while, but never fear: I have been vigiliant in my beauty research! Even with my nose in the books, my mind has been in every makeup aisle in the Nashville area. This examiner is back to make sure your lashes are longer, your lipstick is all-day fabulous, and that you apply those eyeshadow trios correctly! (Seriously. Go back and check that slideshow.)
So, why return now? One word: presents! The gift giving season is upon us. And the economy has seen fit to give us a recession–so buying on the cheap, without losing the chic, is paramount.
In order to avoid the heartache of giving just the wrong thing or being the one receiving the white elephant in the room, the beauty gift guru’s office is open. As a grad student in this city, I know how precious money is; and I cling to my sad George Washingtons as though Ryan Gosling was printed on them. Like, The Notebook-standing-in-the-rain Ryan Gosling.
When I find a product that is under $20, worth the price, that makes a repeat offender out of me: I consider that an endorsement. So, for the holidays this year, my gift-giving recommendations are fervent endorsements for beauty products that I would be over-the-moon to receive, and items that a few lucky friends will get this year. Let the endorsements begin!
Bath and Body Works’s Aromatherapy line has the most amazing salt soaks featuring essential oils, sea salts and natural frangraces like lavender, vanilla, and spearmint. As a frequent buyer, I can tell you that soaking in these salts for 10, 20, 30 minutes will make your skin feel amazing. And the scent from the salts’ essential oils clings to your skin for hours, locking in moisture and enveloping you in the relaxing feeling you just earned by taking a break (finally). Crawling into bed never felt so good! Plus, your bed will smell like that same relaxing bath when you crawl between the sheets the next night.
Insider tip: take a normal washcloth into the tub and use it to bring steam closer to your face, breathing deeply. Washing your face before you get out of the bath allows the steam to open up the pores and your own face wash to really clean out your pores. Your skin will feel incredibly soft between the steam, salt, and soap. Just do not make a habit of cleansing your face like this every time you use the soak; give your skin some room to breathe! If you get to relax, it should too!
Of course I have my personal favorite scent combinations. Sleep-Lavender Vanilla is such a comforting, relaxing, and familiar set of smells that relaxes me almost instantly. Stress Relief-Vanilla Verbena has the comfort of a home-y vanilla combined with the sinus opening powers of verbena. Finally, Stress Relief-Eucalyptus Spearmint works wonders on an achey or sick body.
Because of the season, Bath and Body Works is offering a buy 2, get 1 free deal on all of the Aromatherapy brand products. With each of the bath soaks only $16 (which sounds like a lot, I know, but with the R&R, it pays for itself) I would say, buy one for you, one for a friend, and what you do with the free one…no one is judging here. Least of all me!
Shop online or in-store–locations at Cool Springs, Opry Mills, Rivergate Mall and in Bellevue on Charlotte Pike–but remember that even though holiday shopping is hectic: you have an amazing bath waiting for you at the end of the day.
