“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” -Mohandas Gandhi
The public is invited to attend a New Year Retreat titled “Be the Change” at the Center for Spiritual Living, 2224 Yew Street Road, Bellingham, WA 98229 on December 31st, 2011 and/or January 1st, 2012.
The retreat will be facilitated by Dr. Andrea Asebedo and Joe Asebedo. The retreat begins at 6:00PM on New Year’s Eve, Saturday, December 31st, 2011with a potluck supper, followed by a labyrinth walk facilitated by Myra Smith of The Laughing Flower Labyrinth Company, and a burning bowl ceremony. Saturday evening’s activities are scheduled to conclude at approximately 9:30PM.
“Learning from the path and trusting that the path will take us where we need to go is a lifelong journey. As Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” Walking the labyrinth as part of our spiritual practice, or path, will help us to not only find our path, but will enhance our awareness of the baby steps we are taking as we seek to transform our lives. Patterns of Divine support and intervention will begin to emerge as we reflect on the past and walk toward the future.” – Myra Smith, The Laughing Flower Labyrinth Co.
The next morning, on New Year’s Day, Sunday, January 1st, 2012, all are welcome again from 7:00AM-3:30PM to share meditation, mindful movement, breakfast (provided) and a blessing practice before the Sunday services begin at 10:30AM. Sunday Services include a message from Dr. Andrea Asebedo titled “Start From Where You Are: Getting Clear.” After Sunday Services lunch will be provided. The day will end with a collage process and closing/opening to the new year experience.
“Gandhi’s famous injunction “You must be the change you wish to see in the world” seems the perfect theme for our Center this year – a place and a people dedicated to spiritual growth and deep application of wisdom. Each month we will explore a different aspect of learning what it is we wish for the world and how to transform the wish into action in our own lives. January starts our first lesson – start where you are! In some ways this may seem silly, for where else can we start? And yet there is good work done at the beginning of any endeavor when we 1) take the time to assess what we already have in the way of tools, talents and knowledge and 2) become centered in the present moment not allowing our dreams and wishes for our future to carry us away in a daydream of possibilities with no way in this now moment to get from here to there!” – Dr. Andrea Asebedo, Senior Minister, Center for Spiritual Living, Bellingham, WA
Registration is $12 for Saturday/New Year’s Eve or $20 for the entire retreat/Saturday/New Year’s Eve AND Sunday New Year’s Day. The registration simply covers the Center for Spiritual Living’s costs and so the Center invites retreat participants to also consider making a gift to our teachers/facilitators at the end of the retreat if they are so moved.
