Annual survey worldwide reveals what is the latest in fitness for the new year
Even if women do not always follow the latest trends they still keep up with what is current. Whether it is fashion, hair, latest book releases and even exercise trends to see what is new and may be to add in a new exercise to their routine.
There are exercises for everyone no matter what part of body you want to work on or your entire body. Exercises for beginners, seniors and children.
So keeping up with trends the American College of Sports Medicine by using an annual survey completed by 2,620 fitness professionals worldwide have brought you their answers to what they believe will be the fitness trend for the new year. On the survey fitness professionals had ranked their selections into a list of twenty trends they believe will be popular.
Dr. Walter Thompson, PhD, FACSM, FAACVPR, fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and lead author of the study stated that the survey tries to show a distinction between fads and trends and it is also a good representation of what is happening in health and fitness industry worldwide.
The intention of the survey’s list is to aide in educating consumers and have them consider and or evaluate the health clubs they are attending. For those who go to a gym it helps to determine if the club they are attending provide services that are deemed trendy across the fitness industry in the new year.
So here are some of the top twenty which have made the trendy fitness list for 2012.
Strength training has come along way since 2007 when it made the sixth spot on this list. Today you will find it in the second spot and the benefits it provides women are powerful. Besides being a weight loss method it provides other benefits to women including increasing metabolic rate, increasing and restoring bone density which is vital for preventing and fighting osteoporosis. You increase your lean body mass, strength training does not make you big and bulky like the Hulk. Strengths muscles, tendons, helps to increase overall balance and besides making you feel great and looking great, it allows you to age gracefully. All that enhances of muscles and reducing body fat is great to prevent those body parts from sagging.
Core training that a few years ago some had considered a fad that would fade away may surprise those people as it now makes number seven on the list. Core training translates to performing specific exercise to strengthen your core muscles. So what the advantage? Among the reasons functional fitness which results in the ability to do everyday tasks like walking or bending easily. Ugh, low back pain commonly can be the result of weak core muscles but when they are strong you maintain correct posture and reduce strain on your spine. We love having that tone and tight midsection well core training gives you this and has your abs looking good.
Zumba® and other dance workouts make the list at number nine. Just last year they were ranked 31 out of 37 possible trends Today there are around four million Zumba fans and 25,000 instructors in forty countries. Zumba is safe for a range of ages and fitness levels because the steps can be modified. Zumba fans have sharper minds, tighter abs and gives you its own unique body sculpting. So shake your hips and show your dance moves while toning and sculpting your body it gives that cardio workout while providing fun.
Yoga has grown within the last few years from including more such as Power and Yogalates. Yoga comes in at number eleven providing numerous health benefits for women. It enhances your immune system so you have less chances of becoming ill. Helps you deal with depression and stress. The great part is helps control cholesterol levels and blood pressure. Basically it provides you with a whole lot of physical and mental health benefits.
Outdoor activities comes in at number fourteen. No surprise here since the outdoors has many positive effects on your health. Even though exercise in your home or the gym is great, getting outdoors can still offer you that cardio workout weather it is walking, running or biking through the trails. Light does affect mood according to research and being outdoors improves your mental health. Even if you just exercise or take a walk for just five or ten minutes it offers you additional mental health benefits. If you do not wish to be active on that summers day, lay in a lounge chair or hammock with a great book. It also approves healing. University of Pittsburgh researchers discovered patients recovering from surgery bounce back faster with less pain and shorter hospital stays. Even pulmonologists believe the great outdoors provide benefits like Dr. Gregory Cali, D. O. believes that those with pulmonary problems benefit from outdoor activities like a ten minute walk because they are prone to osteoporosis and vitamin D deficiency. If you have pulmonary problems avoid direct cold air by covering your mouth with a scarf.
The baby boomer generation known generally as those born between 1946 and 1964, are becoming older and they wish to keep their health and maintain their bodies. Now those baby boomers are retiring but they are doing so with gracefully by staying more active.
