Buchanan’s Alex Fertig scored 35 points for the second consecutive day in this year’s Wild West Shootout as the Bears held off the Hawks. Fertig had two 3-pointers as the Bears improved to 8-1 this season. Fertig had a lay-up and a free throw for a 3-point play to give Buchanan a 53-45 lead with just under a minute to play in the third quarter. Fertig’s second 3-pointer gave the Bears a 66-54 lead with 4:45 to play. Joshua Ault added 20 points for the Bears, including four 3-pointers. Hug got 25 points from Sam Williams. The 6-foot-7 junior put back an offensive rebound for a basket to cut Buchanan’s lead to 63-54 with 5:35 to play. Williams had 11 field goals. Hug (4-2) also got nine points from Norris Dupree and eight from Andrew Johnson.
INGLEWOOD SENTINELS 58, RENO HUSKIES 48
Inglewood used balanced scoring from Kristopher Randall (13 points), Nicholas Smiley (10) and Randy Onwuasor (10) to beat Reno. The Sentinels went on a 20-2 run to take a 20-6 lead with 6:10 to play in the second quarter. Edward Scott Jr. and Deron Thomas had 3-pointers during the run. Randall’s 3-pointer gave Inglewood a 40-28 lead with three minutes to play in the third quarter. Reno’s Jake Johnson (22 points), Connor Bush (11) and David Abittan (11) combined for 44 of Reno’s 48 points. The Huskies went on an 11-2 run to cut Inglewood’s lead to 51-44 with 2:30 to play. Onwuasor hit a runner in the lane for a 53-44 Inglewood lead with 1:40 to play.
POST FALLS TROJANS 47, GALENA GRIZZLIES 31
Luke Thoreson (16 points), Michael Hillman (14) and Marcus Colbert (10) combined for 40 of Post Falls’ 47 points. The Trojans outscored the Grizzlies 9-2 in the second quarter to take a 22-13 halftime lead. Thoreson outscored Galena 14-13 in the first half by himself. Colbert drove the lane for a lay-up and a 30-14 lead with 4:50 to play in the third quarter. The 5-foot-11 senior also had a steal and a lay-up for a 36-21 lead with a minute to play in the third quarter. Galena’s Caleb Wood scored 12 points, nine in the first quarter. Wood scored 50 points in his three Wild West Shootout games this year. Blaine Shively added five points against Post Falls. The Grizzlies finished 0-3 in this year‘s Shootout. Post Falls is now 5-0 this year.
LONG BEACH POLY JACKRABBITS 57, DOUGLAS TIGERS 41
Rueben Strickland led the Jackrabbits with 16 points and Roschon Prince added 14. The Jackrabbits jumped out to an 11-2 lead two minutes into the game but then went scoreless for the next five minutes as Douglas pulled to with 11-8 on a 3-pointer by Austin Evans. Strickland hit a jumper for a 27-15 Jackrabbits lead with 1:45 to play in the second quarter and Prince converted an acrobatic lay-up for a 29-19 halftime lead. Prince also drained a 3-pointer for a 40-22 lead with 4:25 to go in the third quarter. A 3-pointer and a lay-up by Strickland gave the Jackrabbit’s a 47-28 lead with six minutes to play. Douglas’ Hunter Myers blocked a Long Beach Poly shot in the lane and fed teammate Conner Hughes for a lay-up to cut the deficit to 47-33 with 4:45 to play. Myers and Nick Maestretti led Douglas with nine points each. Conner Hughes added seven for the Tigers.
BISHOP MANOGUE MINERS 63, LAKES LANCERS 54
The Wild West Shootout host Miners got 17 points from Keni Rogers and 15 points from Bryce Hallam to knock off the Lancers. The Miners, trailing 19-13, went on a 13-0 run in the second quarter and led 26-20 at halftime. Manogue led by as much as 12 (42-30) but Lakes battled back to cut the deficit to just 55-51 with 1:13 to play. Rogers then scored four points in a span of 11 seconds for a 59-51 lead with 53 seconds to play. Lakes’ Dequam Walls hit a 3-pointer to cut the Miners lead to 59-54 with 30 seconds left. James Sandoval connected on a pair of free throws with 26 seconds left for Manogue and Hallam did the same with 16 seconds to go for the nine-point victory. Joe Garrett scored nine points, Anthony Salerno had eight and Gray Reid added seven for Manogue. Lakes‘ Zach Banner, who battled foul trouble in the second half, scored 14 points. It was Banner‘s short hook in the lane that cut Manogue’s lead to 52-47 with 2:35 to play. The 6-foot-9 Banner had nine quick points as Lakes took its 19-13 lead early in the second quarter.

POST FALLS TROJANS vs. NORTH VALLEYS PANTHERS
North Valleys will be making its first and only appearance in this year’s Wild West Shootout in this game. The Panthers are 0-5 this season, with three of the losses coming to Wild West Shootout teams Hug, Douglas and Reno. The Panthers’ Gled Bautista, a 6-foot senior, is averaging 14.6 points a game. Jake Lawson, a 5-10 senior, is averaging 11.8 and 6-3 sophomore Jalil Walker is averaging 11.6. Mauricio Varela, a 5-9 junior, added 8.0 points a game. Post Falls (Idaho) is 3-0 in this year’s Shootout with wins over Reno, Bishop Manogue and Galena. The Trojans’ Luke Thoreson has scored 50 points in three games in the Shootout. Point guard Marcus Colbert has scored 41 points.
LAKES LANCERS vs. HUG HAWKS
Lakes’ Zach Banner has scored 42 points in three Wild West Shootout games. The Lancers, of Lakewood, Wash., are 1-2 in this year’s Shootout after beating Galena and losing to Douglas and Bishop Manogue. Leon Jenkins has scored 27 points in his three Shootout games. Hug is 1-1 in two Wild West Shootout games, beating Inglewood and losing to Buchanan. Sam Williams has scored 35 points in his two games in the Shootout. Norris Dupree and Andrew Johnson have each scored 25 points. Robin Dhatt has scored 19 points in the two games for Hug.
INGLEWOOD SENTINELS vs. DOUGLAS TIGERS
Inglewood (Calif.) is 2-1 in the Shootout with wins over Reno and Galena and a one-point (71-70) loss to Hug. The Sentinels’ Randy Onwuasor has scored 56 points in the three games. Kristopher Randall has scored 30 points, Nicholas Smiley has scored 37. Douglas is 1-2 in the Shootout with losses to Buchanan and Long Beach Poly and a win over Lakes. Douglas’ Hunter Myers, who won the Wild West Shootout Slam Dunk contest Friday night, has scored 35 points in the three games. The Tigers’ Jake Tessmann has scored 23 points and Nick Maestretti has added 17.

Buchanan coach Eric Swain is a former Reno Huskies head coach. Swain’s Bears, of Clovis, Calif., are 2-0 in the Shootout this year with wins over Hug and Douglas. Buchanan’s Alex Fertig leads all Wild West Shootout scorers this year with 70 points in just two games. Joshua Ault has scored 28 points for the Bears and Ryan Swain has 24. Buchanan is averaging 73 points in its two Shootout games. Reno is 0-2 in this year’s Shootout with losses to Post Falls and Inglewood. Jake Johnson has scored 35 points in the Huskies’ two games while Connor Bush has scored 18 and David Abittan has added 20. The Huskies are averaging 46.5 points in their two shootout games.
BISHOP MANOGUE MINERS vs. LONG BEACH POLY JACKRABBITS
The host Miners are 1-1 in the Shootout with a win over Lakes and a loss to Post Falls. Bryce Hallam has scored 25 points in the Miners’ two games. Gray Reid leads all Miners scorers with 30 Shootout points. Keni Rogers has scored 21 with 17 coming in the win over Lakes on Friday. Long Beach Poly, now 8-1, made its Wild West Shootout debut Friday night be beating Douglas. Roschon Prince scored 14, Reuben Strickland had 16, Jordan Bell nine and Joshua Munzon added eight. The Jackrabbits held Douglas to just 26 points through three quarters.
