The most celebrated consumer “holidays” of the year, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, happen to coincide with the start of winter in the minds of many skiers. In fact, the time right after Thanksgiving can mean big discounts on ski apparel and gear.
Skis.com: The online retailer is running 20 percent off Black Friday deals on many of its items. For instance, a $160 Smith Variant Brim helmet is on sale for $128.
REI.com: The REI winter sale that actually started on Nov. 18 continues through Cyber Monday. The savings reach up to 30 percent.
Altrec.com: The website featuring apparel and gear is running a “131-Hour Sale” in addition to an extra 20 percent off select items on Black Friday by using the code BLACKFRIDAY11.
Backcountry.com: The online retailer based in Utah started its Black Friday sale on Thanksgiving. The sale includes more than 17,000 items at discounts up to 50 percent.
Boyne Highlands: The Michigan ski area is offering a Black Friday sale for skiing and lodging booked by phone (800-462-6963) between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. EST on Friday. Lodging at the resort, a full-day lift ticket, breakfast and tubing are included in the package for $85 per person. Children 8 and under are completely free. Prices for youth ages 9-15 start at $23. Excluding a few holidays, the offer is good for anytime during the 2011-12 ski season.
Powder Mountain: The Utah ski area has gift cards on sale Nov. 25- Dec. 2. The $60 gift cards are on sale for $55, but the better deal is $120 cards on sale for $105. The cards may be purchased at PowderMountain.com and picked up at the ski area’s will-call window. The cards can be used for purchases such as lift tickets, food and rentals.
Westin Monache Resort: The California lodging property near the Village Gondola to Mammoth Mountain plans a Cyber Monday sale Nov. 28- Dec. 4. By booking during that time, the rates, starting at $209, are about 25 percent off the regular rates. The specials must be booked through WestinMammoth.com.
Jockey: Skiers with base layers on their lists can take advantage of Jockey’s Black Friday Sale running through Sunday. Shoppers may use coupon code BFR4LJ458 at Jockey.com for 25 percent off and free shipping.
Mountain Gear: The online retailer with a wide selection of apparel and gear has started a Black Friday sale that ends Monday. For example, a $165 men’s Mountain Hardwear Windstopper Tech jacket is on sale for $80.
Epic Pass: Although the $669 Epic Pass, a 2011-12 season pass covering the six ski areas owned by Vail Resorts plus Arapahoe Basin, is not part of a Black Friday sale per se, the passes are still available only through Tuesday.
