Thursday night the long awaited season seven premiere of Bones was aired on FOX channel 21 in Colorado Springs. It marked the beginning of a new era for the crime fighting pair and that new era seems to have rejuvenated the fans according to the ratings. Reports show the episode had a mere 10 million viewers which was the highest the show has seen in premieres for three years. This ‘will they, won’t they couple’ has teased audiences for six years and FINALLY Fox has given the viewers what they want… making them a bonafide real couple.
The premiere picked up a few months after Bones announced to Booth that she was pregnant with his child. They have been spliting time between both their residences and are on the verge of deciding whether they will move in together. Bones (of course) has apprehensions about sharing a home and Booth (ever typical of his character) wants to jump right in with both feet. The great thing about the writers plan for these two is the way they are obviously taking the plot twist off book of typical couple’s that finally get together. They are actually showing the real conflicts the couple would face and the up and down emotional drama that comes along with being a REAL couple (not made for TV couple).
Throughout the episode you saw Bones and Booth pushing and pulling to get what they want in regards to where they will live. Bones wants to live in her home (because the market is terrible and she is more financially stable – so the house is larger), Booth wants to find a house seperate from their current residences. One they get together (and pay for 50/50). Bones reaches out to her co workers for advice… she may be good in the lab but relationship-wise not so much. While Bones has Angela, Hodgins, and Camile for advice, Booth has the ever persistent Lance Sweets to talk to. While all the family drama is happening Bones and Booth find time to solve the murder of a woman in a paintball field. The twist in the case was that her killer was her gambling addicted psychologist. You can check out some of the extended previews of the episode here if you missed it. The baby plot has seriously changed the dynamic of the show, some would say for the better if the ratings have anything to say about it, but we will have to see how popular the new storyline is with fans as we get further into the season.
