Brandy Darling is a manager and promoter about town but especially at the Lion’s Lair (my article about that venue is here). Amongst the groups she manages are The West, Atomic Americans, and Slackjaw. Her company Girl Wreck Presents has been up and running for about a year. Brandy cut her teeth in the scene working for Nobody in Particular in Presents and worked as 43rd St Zoo for about a year immediately prior to Girl Wreck. She is an organized and active proponent of Denver’s musical community in addition to being newly engaged and a mother.
Recently at the Lion’s Lair Brandy told me “Denver is already on the map.” I asked if Denver, New York, and Paris belonged on a list together and Brandy responded that we are “more of an Austin, Portland, or Seattle.” Brandy is doing her part to add to our reputation as a city by booking shows for mid-level touring acts as well as locals every week through her company Girl Wreck Presents.
Personally, I’m looking forward to the continuance of her female-fronted acts festival, Girl Wreck Fest, with it’s second annual occurrence slated for the weekend before Thanksgiving this year. The Lion’s Lair is featuring Walter (w/ special guest Suzi Homewrecker) Friday, January 6, and the Ghost Towner’s Saturday, January 7.
Brandy’s (in a managerial sense) group The West perform Friday, January 6 at Bar Bar with Warhawk, and next Friday, January 13, 2012 at Lion’s Lair with folky out-of-staters The Blue Ribbon Healers. Additionally, The West bring their country/rock/pop songcraft to the Toad Tavern with Slakjaw (another of the acts Brandy books) and Stoned Wallabies January 19.
