Come to Brazen BBQ for the barbeque but don’t miss out on the happy hour! San Diego has a new barbeque restaurant and it’s vying for your attention.
First of all, I lived in Texas for 19 years and I’ve had my share of great barbeque. I can honestly say that this is one of the best briskets I’ve ever had. It falls apart in your mouth and begs to be consumed.
On a recent visit to Brazen BBQ Smokehouse & Bar I was fortunate enough to meet the owner, John Bracamonte. He doesn’t hail from Texas but he was introduced to the down south delight by neighbors. He quickly learned the art of slow cooking and smoking brisket. It’s not just my word though they have awards to boast their delicacies.
In their first year of cooking this fine delicious brisket they earned the Rookie of the Year award and were in the top ten best barbeques for California. Their ranking for the entire nation… they hit the top 100. Not bad for the first year!
The brisket is not the only fantastic thing on the menu. I also had the flatbread – WONDERFUL! Then there’s the Brisket Stroganoff (first time for that), Cajun Hotlinks, and Pork Spare Ribs. These are all contenders for a prime spotlight on the menu.
The sides….darn good! Crusty Macaroni & Cheese, Sweet Corn Medley, Ancho Spiced Beans, and Cornbread. I felt that I had somehow been transported to a happy little spot in Texas, even though my feet were still grounded in San Diego.
Now on to happy hour, the prices are superb. From 3:30 PM – 6:30 PM house wine is only $4.00/glass, drafts are $2 off, $3 well drinks, and $2 off appetizers. On Sunday’s it’s all day happy hour – $3 Mimosa’s; $5 Bloody Mary’s; $1 off drafts, well drinks, house wine and appetizers.
