Central Ohio residents who have been wanting to learn how to bake bread or just improve on their basic skills can start the New Year right with bread baking classes. Omega Artisan Baking, in the North Market at 59 Spruce Street, Columbus has announced the Winter 2012 baking class schedule on their Facebook page.
Baking bread at home offers many advantages. Home bakers can be certain of the ingredients in their family’s food and eliminate preservatives. And honestly, there are few more relaxing things to do than to get lost in thought while kneading a loaf of bread.
Specializing in European artisan breads, Omega Artisan Baking opens its kitchen to students for hands-on evening lessons. Novices will appreciate the Beginning Bread Baking course on January 18 and will learn to bake and shape three types of bread. Developing a starter can frighten some bread bakers but the February 8 class discussing Bread Starters and Sourdoughs will remove the mystery and add sourdough bread to your regular baking schedule.
Other classes to be offered include Breakfast and Brunch on February 1 and the new Pizza and Flatbreads on January 25. The Wednesday evening classes are $65 each and include a light dinner and parking. Expect the classes to last three to four hours due to the rising time for the bread.
Minimum class size is 15 and the kitchen has space for only 20. For more information, call 614-224-9910 or stop in at Omega Artisan Baking during regular business hours Tuesday through Sunday.
