More accusers were trotted out in front of the mainstream media today to allege sexual harassment on the part of Republican Presidential candidate Herman Cain.
As with other accusers, there is no hard evidence to prove the allegations. Thus, the entire display is a case of ‘he said, she said,’ and none of the women making the charges can prove their accusations against Cain.
For Cain’s part, the candidate stated in a news conference late today that he totally denies all of the allegations. He further indicated that he was determined to save his reputation from false smears.
One of the women in particular, who was accompanied by Attorney Gloria Allred, appears to have troubles of her own. Rush Limbaugh notes,
You think Obama doesn’t love hearing this, a 13-year-old tattletale? I mean, this a brown-shirt preview here, exactly what big government types like: A 13 year old saying, “You tell on him, mom! You go tell on him”…This is Chuck Goudie I think is how he pronounces had the name at WLS-TV Eyeball News 7 in Chicago, Actually, ABC 7 News at 6, not at 5:30, but at 6. This is a portion of his report about Sharon Bialek…
GOUDIE: Changing jobs has been a regular occurrence for the Chicagoan. She has worked for at least nine different employers the past 17 years and appears to have struggled financially. The public record on Bialek begins in 1991, when she filed personal bankruptcy for the first time while living in Des Plaines. Between ’93 and ’96 she worked for four different companies in promotion and marketing positions. In ’96 and part of ’97, she was at the National Restaurant Association. In 1999, her son Nicholas was born and a paternity lawsuit was filed by the father, a media executive. In 2001 came her second personal bankruptcy filing after sizable legal bills.
RUSH: Now, does any of this matter to anybody? I’m still… Folks, again: Gallup, the polling bunch, says, “The Cain allegations have attracted a level of attention that is lower than the average attention all Americans have paid to news stories Gallup has tracked over the last several decades.” In other words, nobody paying attention to all this —
CBS News confirmed this evening that the flap has had very little effect on Cain’s standing among Republican voters.
Cain stated that when Bialek approached the platform with Allred, “It occurred to me that I don’t even know this woman. I have never seen her before. I don’t remember her at all.”
Further, a news report issued by Business Insider indicates that the original accuser who filed a sexual harassment claim against Cain in the 1990s is a Democratic operative who now works in the Obama Administration.
While family members vouch for the woman’s integrity, Cain has his own ‘ace in the hole’ in the midst of the allegations–his character. The one thing that speaks in Cain’s favor is a long history in high-profile positions in business, banking, and other enterprises, which points to a man who has earned the respect and admiration of hundreds of citizens.
This is not to say that Cain is perfect or without faults. And it is unknown at this point if anything else will be disclosed that will serve to damage Cain to the point that he is forced to withdraw from the race.
But so far, nothing in the polls indicates that he is anywhere near that point, and the candidate himself states that he is determined to carry on.
