***THERE ARE SPOILERS CONTAINED IN THIS ARTICLE. If you don’t already have an inkling of what CoD:MW3 is all about this writer suggest you close your eyes and start singing LALALALALALALALA at the top of your lungs to avoid any knowledge of the game.***
Talk about destruction! Iconic locations across the world are not safe from the destructive forces of the Russian army and the forces fighting them. During the forced retreat of the Russian army from Manhattan, New York, Wall-Street takes a beating. Exploding planes, falling buildings, and the destruction of Paris with the fall of the Eiffel Tower. There is little from Sierra Leone, Somalia, London, Berlin, Paris, Prague, a diamond mine in Siberia, a hotel in Dubai that wasn’t destroyed.
It isn’t just the story line that makes CoD:MW3 one of the most popular games ever. Activision reported: “Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 3 Sets All-Time Record for the Biggest Entertainment Launch with More than $400 Million in North America and United Kingdom Sales Alone. More Than 6.5 Million Units Sold in U.S. and U.K. in 24 Hours”. It is the way that the sense of realism when playing. On a large screen it feels almost as if you could step into the game and be in the middle of the action. The textures of the stone on the buildings, the look of the metal of your weapons, the smoke, fire, and everything combines to make a gut wrenching visceral war time experience. Even the use of civilians adds to the chaos of war. In the chapter Hunter Killer , the underwater textures are stunning. As torpedoes are fired and pass you by, watch the displacement of water behind them, very cool! The detonation of the mines, if you pass to close, sends concussion surges your way. The only thing that is questionable is, when you are swimming through the tunnel, why the car lights are still working? Aesthetically it is cool to look at, it solves the problem of having to swim through darkness, but it doesn’t seem logical.
There are very few glitches to mention but some of the funniest ones come during Scorched Earth. Lots of destruction as you try to rescue Alena, the Russian President’s daughter but it is the dead bodies that make a girl giggle. It’s wrong, but take a look at them as you pass by. Some will be hovering mid-air, legs sticking up in the air and arms floating up to the sky. Or, hovering over the edge of buildings looking as if they should be falling over the side, but not. A little amusement factor in the chaos of war.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is a spectacular end to an era. The Soap, Price, and Marakov triangle…well, don’t want to completely spoil the end but, um, WOW! It’s worth the gazillion times dying (on Veteran) to see the final outcome. Although, even dying has its benefits. How else could you see the great quotes? Girl Gamer fav? “God fights on the side with the best artillery” — Napoleon Bonaparte
After playing the single player Campaign the Special Ops missions are fun. Not as good as in Modern Warfare 2 but still good. Have to say though, the Normal for Special Ops seems more dificult then the Veteran for the Campaign.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 from the Girl Gamer? Explosively satisfying, visceral blockbuster.
