2011 has been a big year for first person shooters. Games like Gears of War 3, Rage and Battlefield 3 have kept gamers on the ragged edge of first person shooter madness all year long. The hardest question to answer though is which first person shooter is the best of 2011? Ask around and you may hear just about every possible answer but only one game can claim the glorious title of Best Shooter of 2011. Congratulations to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
On December 10, 2011 Spike TV hosted the annual Spike Video Game Awards and Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games walked away with the coveted award for the latest installment in the Modern Warfare series. While winning the award will do nothing to stiffle the endless debate between gamers it is a nice accolade for the hard working men and women who developed the game.
Modern Warfare 3’s single player mode is the next chapter in the epic story of World War III. While Infinity Ward did little to bring innovative new features to the story mode they did an excellent job of bringing gamers one of the best possible game play experiences we have seen in a long time using tried and true methods. The story unfolds pretty fast and furious.
Survival Mode is a great deal of fun and a new way to enjoy cooperative play with friends. One or two players engage wave after wave of enemy attackers which become progressively more difficult.
Multiplayer gameplay has always been the strong part of the franchise and MW3 not only lives up to expectations but exceeds them as well. MW3 expands on the previous leveling system adding levels of expertise to each individuals weapon while added a large selection of new, juicy choices. Kill streak rewards are customizable not only in choice but also in play style as well.
