A clipper-type low pressure system over the upper Great Lakes early on Christmas morning will skirt eastward along the New York and Canada border through the day. The system’s warm front will pass through the region this morning, while the cold front passes through during the afternoon and evening hours. A bout of light rain and/or snow showers is expected with the system though nothing of major significance in terms of accumulations is expected.
High pressure will build back into the region for Monday, as a storm develops over the Gulf Coast states and moves quickly northeastward. At the same time, another disturbance is forecast to move quickly across southeastern Canada. The two storm systems look to merge in the vicinity of northern New England on Wednesday morning, with a trailing cold front slicing through the area during the day on Wednesday. Thus, another period of rain and/or rain changing to snow is possible on Wednesday.
The flurry of activity will subside on Thursday as high pressure builds into the region once again. Another fast moving system will approach to close out the work week and head into the holiday weekend.
Happy Holidays to all from the Capital Region Weather Examiner!
