The fact that Cerritos College scored 34 points in the first half did not bode well for the BC Renegades. It was a point total that the Gades have not scored in any game this season. With the 41-19 defeat, BC has now lost five straight games, and tied the school losing streak record for only the third time in school history. The Gades are 0-4 in the National Northern Conference with a single road game remaining at College of the Canyons next Saturday. They are 3-6 overall for the season.
Falcons Starting quarterback Brandon Denker led a dominant attack against a Renegades defense that continued to struggle. Denker threw for three touchdown passes, all in the second quarter. He also ran for a 12 yard TD in the first quarter, and a four yard TD in the fourth. He did most of the damage in the first half, completing 13 of 22 passes for 161 yards, while also rushing three times for 28 yards. For the game, he was 17 of 30 passing for 199 yards, and five runs for 22 yards.
BC quarterback Brian Duboski totaled 11 of 30 passing for 115 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions. The BC running game provided a total of 67 yards on the ground and proved to be ineffective throughout the course of the game.
The story of this game was a familiar theme for BC this season. The Gades defense could not come up with stops on third downs, or even on fourth downs in this contest. The Falcons were five of nine on third down conversions in the first half (7-16 overall), and three of three on fourth downs (all in the first half). On the flip side, BC was zero for nine on third downs , and two of three on fourth downs for the game. The lone bright spot for BC seemed to be their kick return game, with 152 yards on six returns.
In the second half, the BC defense improved and allowed one TD, but the offense failed to provide enough to match the defensive effort. With 14:46 left on the game clock, the Gades faced a fourth and 23 on the Cerritos 30 yard line. Duboski then hit Aaron Morris for a TD that made the score 34-19, and provided a slim glimmer of hope. The extra point attempt was blocked however. After BC held Cerritos on their next series, the Gades hope turned into more frustration, as Duboski threw an interception that gave the Falcons possession on the BC 25 yard line. On the play, he was rushed hard and took a crunching blow after releasing the pass.
The Falcons starting their drive on the BC 25 yard line proved to be the final nail in the coffin, as Denker ran it in from the four yard line for their last TD with 8:31 left on the game clock. Another game, another loss in a season to forget, with one game remaining.
