It’s been a long hard year and there’s no denying that we all deserve to raise a glass of bubbles and fizz as we prepare to ring in another new year. Regardless of your budget, there are some great bottles of champagne available to help you toast 2012.
For the “Affordable and Refreshing” budget, check out these selections in the $10 to $15 range:
Saint-Hilaire Brut, Blanquette de Limoux, one of Wine Enthusiast’s top buys, a taste of this is like biting into a tart juicy pear.
Domaine Chateau St. Michelle, hailing from Columbia Valley, Washington, this American sparkler is consistently good and available in a range of styles from dry to pink to somewhat sweet.
If your budget can tolerate “Mid-priced and Major Flavor,” one of these bottles, which average in cost from $25 to $45, should do the trick:
Mumm’s Napa Cuvee M, ever so slightly sweet with flavors of ripe berries, this will be an instant party hit.
Sofia Blanc de Blancs, not only is this packaged in one of the prettiest bottles on the market, the wine itself is pretty with its aromas of fresh peaches and apricots.
Duval Leroy NV Paris Design, this beautiful bottle has a Parisian night scene painted on it and the wine received 91 points from Wine Spectator. It makes for a great hostess gift as well as something special to commemorate the New Year.
If you can stretch the purse strings just a bit, go for one of these $50 and over “Special Splurges”:
Perrier-Jouet Grand Brut NV, this classic French champagne combines fruit over underlying toasty, biscuit richness.
Mumm’s Napa DVX, this winner is complex and rich and is a steal of a deal price-wise, but if you really want to blow it out and price is not an object, try Salon, Krug, Taittinger, Ruinart or Moet & Chandon for a very special treat.
These bottles of bubbly should be readily available in the Charlotte area from stores such as Frugal MacDoogal, Total Wine & More, Wine Shop at Foxcroft, and Arthur’s at South Park.
