If you are a Christian and you have just moved to this area, you may currently be in the process of searching for a new church to attend. You’re not alone! There are millions of people in the world who are searching for a church in hopes of forefilling their calling to whatever ministry that God has given them a passion for. There are certain steps that you may want to consider taking in your search for the church that God is calling you to, especially in Corydon, IN where church attendance is a valuable asset to the functionality of the community.
Before you even begin your search, ask God to help you and give you a sign when you do find the right one. Don’t ask Him to help you find a church that you like, but the one that He has chosen for you to attend. Allow him to take over this situation as you would for any other. It’s important to pray with your family as you will be entrusting them to the care and leadership of others in the future.
Make sure the church you are choosing to attend is built off of a biblical foundation. The Bible is the bais of our knowledge of God and how we can have a relationship with Him. It teaches us how to be disciples of Christ. It was written over a period of 1,600 years by men and women of different backgrounds. If the church does not teach from it, you will miss out on what it means to follow Christ and worship Him.
A new testament church will know what it means to follow Jesus Christ. They will acknowledge Him as Lord and Savior. Most Corydon residents will acknowledge that if a church does not function or worship in a manner that is pleasing to God you should look elsewhere. Don’t be led astray by churches filled with “Christians” that behave Christ-like on Sunday and however they want the rest of the week. However, remember that there is no perfect church or no perfect person for that matter.
After Jesus died and was resurrected He ascended to the right hand of the Father where he intercedes on behalf of the saints. On the day of Pentecost God sent the Holy Spirit to become an ever present presence in our lives. He is here to produce His fruit, empower us with His gifts, and anoint us. Our bodies are His temples. Therefore, our churches should be a manifestation of His presence that operates in us today. If this is not visible within the churches you have attended. God has probably not called you to either one of them. You may have a hard time finding churches in the area that are not Holy Spirit-led in this area because there are a multitude of them such as Community of Hope Church of the Nazarene, Trinity Assembly of God, Lincoln Hills Christian Church, etc.
Area churches offer a multitude of opportunities to become involved in their ministries. After you have found a church to attend you may ask yourself which ministries to become involved in. “Should I become a leader?” “Should I join the men’s ministry (if I am a male)?” “Should I join the women’s ministry (if I am a female)?” “Should I join the prime timer’s ministry (if I am old)?” :) If you are asking yourself any of these questions and/or praying about it to God, you have probably already found the right church, but let’s consider some more factors.
Jesus came so that the world might be saved through Him. His eyes saw no color, race, creed, sect, or sex. He came so that anybody can be adopted into the family of God, have life, and live it more abundantly. If many of a church’s members and/or leaders are not accepting of you and other members of your family, it is probably not where God has called you to attend. However, you may not run into this problem around here as many of the residents are loving and accpting of one another.
True New Testament churches are not museums, monasteries, or even organizations. They are living organisms. True churches worship God in spirit and in truth, for this is the kind of worship that He accepts. Churches, especially in this area, are a gathering place for Christians to come together to express their love for and relationship with Jesus Christ. Churches should encourage newcomers to do so by singing, clapping, shouting, dancing, and playing musical instruments. Where the Holy Spirit is, there is liberty and freedom.
If you found a church that contains all of these qualities, it is possible that you have found the one that God has chosen for you to not only attend, but to express your love for Him. Most importantly, it is highly likely that you’re not going to find that kind of church. There will always be flaws. Not all Corydon churches or other churches around the world are perfect, but they are organs of the Body of Christ and they do the best they can to please Him.
