When two nations go to war one will surrender and the greater will take the hand of the lesser or drive them out. The fire in the Middle East continues as religious wars kindle.
Coptic Christians are continuing to be persecuted as Islamic faith grows in Egypt and while the country is in a state of unrest the violence has increased. There are a few verses that continue to grip the unrest that originate from the two main faith texts of the Bible and the Quran. Each show clearly the two differing faiths and the differences that have led to violence in the Middle East.
In the Quran it states: 009.030
“Y: The Jews call ‘Uzair a son of Allah, and the Christians call Christ
the son of Allah. That is a saying from their mouth; (in this) they but
imitate what the unbelievers of old used to say. Allah’s curse be on
them: how they are deluded away from the Truth!
P: And the Jews say: Ezra is the son of Allah, and the Christians say:
The Messiah is the son of Allah. That is their saying with their
mouths. They imitate the saying of those who disbelieved of old. Allah
(Himself) fighteth against them. How perverse are they!
S: And the Jews say: Uzair is the son of Allah; and the Christians say:
The Messiah is the son of Allah; these are the words of their mouths;
they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before; may Allah
destroy them; how they are turned away!”
These verses found in the 9th chapter of the Quran have led to much violence that has continued as clashes started in January in Egypt with the Spring Revolution.
It is safe to say that unless peace is made between the two differing religions the words of Christ will be asserted:
“Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains. “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”
These lines taken from Matthew 24 verse 4-14 assure that the Christian believer will be persecuted. But the reactions by the Coptic Christians that have taken place in the Middle East are not coherent with what the Christ taught:
“But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, “
These lines can be found in Matthew chapter 5 verse 44. Since the Coptic faith is only a percentage of the Egyptian population today it is probable that if the violence continues from religious discrimination the genocides of the holy wars of the 11th through 14th century could become a reality.
As people wake up to the clearer truth of the texts they believe in it should be said that Christ taught : “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.”
And in the Quran 002.11: “Y: When it is said to them: ‘Make not mischief on the earth,’ they say:
‘Why, we only Want to make peace!’”
