Christmas; the day of worshipping God, spending time with family and giving gifts. We all wish it could be Christmas every day don’t we? Well as Christians it should be Christmas every day! Thus was the message at morning service on this Christmas day at The Door Christian Center in Kearny Mesa, San Diego. A different but yet appropriate message.
Growing up as kids we wished it could be Christmas every day. I know I did, albeit for all the wrong reasons. Christmas officially occurs once a year on December 25th, but it really should occur every day. We are all given special gifts from God as discussed in 1 Corinthians 12 and Romans 12 among other places. These gifts are given uniquely and personally to us by God. We all have different gifts including musical talents, speaking talents, etc.
These gifts have been given to us by God so that we may use them to serve other people, but many times we fail to see that and instead focus on ourselves and what we don’t have. We spend more time focusing on what John Doe has, wishing we had what he had. Instead, we need to harness what we do have and use it for the reason it was given to us; to serve others. This is how the church of God functions properly; when everyone comes together and use the gifts they have been given to further the Kingdom of Heaven and bless everyone around them.
The other two aspects of Christmas; worshipping God and spending time with family, should already occur on a daily basis. Thus as Christians, every day should be Christmas. We should live everyday worshipping God, spending time with family and giving to others. After all Christian and Christmas both have Christ as the prefix, as He should be.
Imagine how different the world would be if we lived every day as Christmas day. So starting this Christmas, let’s make it a habit to live life as it were Christmas every day. Give and help at least one person who needs it every day and see the true nature of God revealed in your life and on this Earth.
‘Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?’ Jesus said to him,‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.’ Matthew 22:36-40 NKJV
