If you thought Hart of Dixie’s Lemon Breeland (Jaime King) was high strung and manipulative in her own way, you may want to look out because the next in her generation may be able to give even her big sister a run for her money in the troublemaker department. Thus far everything Lemon has done has been somewhat sly; she wants to get what she wants, but she wants to do it in a way that holds up her image as proper southern belle. Her little sister Magnolia? Well, she doesn’t necessarily have that problem. Up-and-coming actress and singer Claudia Lee blows into the Breeland family– and Bluebell in general– with a mindset that looks extremely familiar but ways all her own.
“Of course Magnolia is a part of the Breeland family, so she has that little Breeland streak in her blood, and she definitely is just a really fun character to play,” Lee previewed for LA TV Insider Examiner last week. “She is a troublemaker! She’s not the typical southern belle, and so she has things her way; she likes it her way. She’s just really determined to get what she wants and to prove her point…She isn’t as prim and proper as most southern belles are– and not as prim and proper as her sister.”
But some things may run in the family, including the ability to get involved in love triangles and rivalries with even the nicest people. Lee shared that though Magnolia does have a boyfriend, she could see a new guy (or two or three…) in Bluebell catching her eye. And like sister, like sister– apparently– when it comes to taste.
“I think [Magnolia] would totally go for someone like Lavon,” Lee laughed. “Or Wade a little bit because Magnolia is a little bit of a wild kind of girl. She already has a boyfriend, but I think it would have to be a mixture of all of the guys because she likes to be in control, too. They have to be fun, exciting, and let her be in control.”
Being so alike, Lee shared that she thinks Magnolia is on Lemon’s side when it comes to disliking and distrusting Zoe (Rachel Bilson), though probably not to the extent of the hatred. And she admitted that having such similar personalities may cause the sisters to butt heads at times. But when it comes down to it, they’re family, and that is more important than anything else. And in truth, they kind of need each other as allies against those they fear are trying to steal their men!
“Rose Hattenbarger and Magnolia kind of have their own little rivalry,” Lee revealed. “There are these two rivalries with Zoe and Rose and Lemon and Magnolia. Rose is trying to steal my boyfriend!”
Being a part of such an important town family– and having such a juicy storyline right off the bat of yet another love triangle– there is no doubt that Lee and Magnolia will be ones to watch within Bluebell and on The CW. Lee, whose role is currently a recurring one, will definitely be sticking around for the holidays, for which she announced “For us Breelands, bigger is better!”
“Let’s just say in the town of Bluebell Alabama, there’s a lot of Christmas cheer and a lot of great holiday celebrations, but it is Bluebell Alabama, and there is definitely going to be some juicy drama and some stuff that’s going to happen in this town!”
But Lee is also currently on tour to promote her single “Hollywood Sunset” and subsequent album dropping in January and therefore expressed great enthusiasm for being able to incorporate her real life love and talent for music into her new character. As of yet there has been no opportunity for her to sing on the show, but now that Hart of Dixie has been granted a full season order, Lee shared she’d be “totally up for it” if the powers that be at the show were, too.
And if life really does imitate art, we know that just like Magnolia, Lee will find a way to get what she wants.
Hart of Dixie airs on Monday nights at 9pm, only on The CW.
