Here is a very different sort of craft from one of my old teaching books: home-made stickers! The ingredients are simple, the taste is yummy (more “lick and stick” than “scratch and sniff!”) and the concept is really cool and economical. This project is recommended for children over the age of 2 years. Children will need help with the solution because of boiling water.
You Will Need:
- Flavored gelatin (aka Jell-O)
- Boiling water
- Various small pictures from magazines
What Do You Do?
Take 1 tsp flavored gelatin and 2 tsp boiling water and mix in a small bowl until gelatin is dissolved. Let cool about one minute. This makes the sticker solution.
Children can exercise their fine motor skills by cutting out small pictures of their favorite things from magazines. Brush a thin coat of the warm sticker solution onto the back of the pictures. When dry, children lick and stick them onto paper or glass. They can, in this way, make a tasty collage of all their favorite things.
Recommended for windows not in direct sunlight, or for mirrors or other shiny surfaces, but foil or paper can be used in a pinch.
