The geek, the foodie, and the fashionista cover three aspects of my personality, and my holiday shopping trends in those directions. Here is my list of must-have faves to look for this Cyber Monday.
I reviewed the groundbreaking, interactive iPad book, When Santa Got Sick for Christmas of 2010. Santa 1.0 was introduced only six days before Christmas in 2010, and earned a 5-star rating and critical acclaim.
Food4thought Productions has since expanded its arm through Food4thought Books. This year it has released an updated version–Santa 2.1 for the iPad, which will sell for $3.99 on iTunes. But it has also adapted this engaging tale to other e-book formats, namely the Kindle Fire and the Nook Color.
“When we released the Santa book last year, it was the only original Christmas iDat book in the fledgling iPad, interactive market,” says Greg Perkins, the book’s author and app developer. “iDat” is a term coined by Greg that stands for Interactive, Digital, Animated, Talking books, a category some call, “enhanced books.” Santa is part of a new breed of e-books that push the boundaries of the iPad medium with moving parts and audio options.
To download and purchase the e-book in all available formats, visit the book’s website: When Santa Got Sick.
Douglas E. Welch is a friend, business associate, and all around technology wizard, who is a pioneer in the blogging world, technology, and Social Media. He has spent 25 years working in many aspects of high-tech and writing about much of it, and now shares that knowledge with you through three different e-books.
The High Tech Career Handbook
Douglas has culled the best columns from his 13 years of writing for ComputerEdge Magazine (1997-2003) into a book for all high-tech careerists, whether you are just starting out, building your career, or looking for a new career in the high-tech world.
Social Media Self-Preservation
Douglas encourages us to take advantage of Social Media, without losing our minds. Social Media is now integrated in our business and personal lives, but it need not be overwhelming or fraught with challenges and pitfalls. Douglas shows us the best use of Social Media without falling into the traps of lost privacy and social media burnout.
Cultivating your Career Reputations
While the world in general talks about one, monolithic, “Reputation” – with a capital R, Douglas believes that there are a series of reputations that make up the whole. This book focuses on the combination of reputations that make up your one, overarching, Reputation.
Why break your Reputation down into its constituent parts, you might ask. Douglas says, “It is often said that you can’t ‘do’ projects, you can only do the individual tasks that make up the project and achieve the desired result. The same can be said for reputation. You don’t build your reputation as a whole, you cultivate the smaller reputations that create it. Each individual action builds your reputation in unique ways and each requires some thought as to how they relate to the whole.”
All books are available for purchase on Amazon.com in Kindle format. Prices range from $4.99-$9.99 per download. You can find more about Douglas and his work at his website.
I discovered the Favor It Girl at an At The Helm: Women in Biz 2011 conference last October. The organizers gave each attendee a beautiful, scrumptious lollipop from Favor It Girl in our goodie bags. I don’t consider myself a sugar fiend, but after sampling that pop, I may end up becoming one!
Favor It Girl offers a wide variety of candy buffets, candy gift bags, and individual treats that can be used for gifts, party favors, swag bags, promotional displays, or stocking stuffers. And they are so reasonable! Prices range from $5.50-$7.50 with a minimum of five bags per order. For orders over 20 bags, you get a 10% discount.
Candy bags come in a variety of colors, and can be customized to your event’s color theme. And of course, bags come in red, green, and gold for Christmas, and in blue, white, and silver for Chanukah.
To order, contact the Favor It Girl at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (818) 371-7059. I plan to buy a dozen lollipops myself to use as small gifts and stocking stuffers.
And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the fabulous and fashionable handbags by Sarah Shaw. Her Simply Sarah Shaw website spotlights handbag collections and organizational tools for all your carry items. Both categories come in fun, jazzy colors and designs, and most are under $20.00!
You can keep Black Friday–Cyber Monday is where it’s at!
