The end of 2011 is upon us, and as New Year’s Eve falls on a weekend this year, the parties are even more abundant in Denver than normal. If you’re looking for some great live music to ring in the New Year, here are just a few of the more promising gigs going on around Denver this weekend.
SLIM CESSNA’S AUTO CLUB, DEC. 30-31
Local Americana folk band Slim Cessna’s Auto Club will be headlining at the Bluebird Theater, 3317 E. Colfax in Denver, on Friday, Dec. 30 and Saturday, Dec. 31. Opening acts include Drag the River and Tin Horn Prayer on Friday, and Munly & the Lupercaliansand Casey James Prestwood on Saturday. Advance tickets are available for $22 for Friday, $29 for Saturday, and prices increase day of show. Two-day passes available for $40. Service charges apply. Doors at 8:00 PM each night, shows start at 9:00. Ages 16+.
THE FOOT, DEC. 31
Denver alt-rockers The Foot will headline a New Year’s Eve party Saturday night at the Marquis Theater, 2009 Larimer St. in downtown Denver. Also appearing are Vices I Admire, Monroe Monroe and In the Whale. Tickets are $10 advance, $12 day of show, available from Soda Jerk Presents. Doors at 7:00 PM. Ages 18+.
BOP SKIZZUM, DEC. 31
Local funk band Bop Skizzum is hosting a New Year’s Eve party Saturday night at Moe’s Original Bar-B-Que, 3295 S. Broadway in Englewood. Also appearing are Eldren, Lizzie Huffman and In Due Time. Tickets are $12 advance, $15 day of show, and ticket price includes a midnight champagne toast for those 21 and over. Doors at 8:00 PM; show starts at 9:00. Ages 16+.
SOMETHING UNDERGROUND, DEC. 31
Denver rock band Something Underground is headlining a New Year’s Eve show at theSoiled Dove Underground, 7401 E. 1st Ave. in Denver. Opening acts include The Currentand Strip the Stars. Tickets are $25-$30 each, available from Soiled Dove Underground. Doors at 8:00 PM; show starts at 9:00. Ages 21+.
YOUNG DUBLINERS, DEC. 31
Irish rock band Young Dubliners will be ringing in the New Year at Little Bear Saloon, 27895 Hwy 74 in downtown Evergreen. Tickets are $50 each, available from Little Bear. Ticket price includes a buffet meal, champagne toast and other gifts. The Young Dubliners go on starting at 9:00 PM. Ages 21+.
