The Waterpik people sent Home and Living their new EcoFlow showerhead and we had an interview with their representative, which follows. Any opinions about this product on our part are unsolicited and ours alone.
Q.: We’re here today to talk about the new EcoFlow Waterpik Showerhead; what was the impetus for this new design?
A.: It was all about delivering water savings without sacrificing a great shower experience–and doing that with a design that people will be proud to display in their bathroom.
Q.: Can you elaborate on the way this showerhead saves water?
A.: Any manufacturer can restrict flow in an existing showerhead to reduce the water usage. However, many times that results in poor spray force and a “whimpy” feeling spray. Waterpik engineers designed this product from the ground up–with the understanding that the key challenge was to provide a powerful spray using less water. So, by channeling water through the showerhead in a way that minimizes flow restrictions, they can provide a more forceful spray feel for the user.
In addition to saving water through normal usage, this product also features a unique flow control dial on the handle. By turning this dial all the way down, you can temporarily reduce flow to a trickle while keeping the water warm. This is great to use when shaving legs, or lathering up–or when you are bathing a child or pet–and it saves even more water.
“…the key challenge was to provide a powerful spray using less water…”
Q.: What are the settings for the type of flow featured and what is OptiFlow?
A.: There are 5 settings on this product: A full body spray for total coverage; a rejuvenating circular massage, a soothing mist spray, a concentrated spray–which is great for deep rinsing shampoo from thick hair, and a massage/mist combination setting.
Q.: How is the price point on this product compared to other shower fixtures?
A.: The suggested retail on this model is extremely affordable–at approximately $50 (you can find them at Home Depot).
Given that this shower can save up to $100/year on water/energy savings this showerhead can pay for itself quickly.
Q.: Do you have an environmental mission?
A.: Specific to the EcoFlow line of products: Since 2007, Water Pik has been a pioneer in developing eco-friendly shower heads. By launching the EcoFlow shower head design, these Water Pik products are committed and designed to reduce water usage in the shower by up to 40 percent, without sacrificing quality or performance. Based on EcoFlow units sold in one year, consumers generated an annual savings of more than 3 billion gallons of water and realized more than $40 million dollars in energy savings.
Q.: How difficult is it to install the EcoFlow showerhead?
A.: While many people think it is difficult, it is actually a 5 minute project–that can have a major impact on how you start your day, every day.
Q.: Do you have a website for more information? Is there also a blog?
A.: Our web site here http://www.waterpik.com: A blog is here: http://www.waterpik.com/blog/
