Cinema Arts Centre’s monthly Rock Legends Live! series offers an Elvis Presley Birthday Celebration that will get the new year off to a good start. A reception with Bill Shelley of Shelley Archives, along with a screening and discussion of rare performance footage of the King takes place on Tuesday, Jan. 10.

Celebrate Elvis Presley’s 77th birthday (January 8) with rare performances by the King of Rock and Roll from his early years in the 1950’s to his Las Vegas performances and tours in the 1970’s. Gathered from a number of concerts, television appearances, and rare rehearsal clips, this thrilling celebration will include Hound Dog, Teddy Bear, I’m All Shook Up, Love Me Tender, Don’t Be Cruel, I Can’t Help Falling in Love, Suspicious Minds, and cover versions of other people’s songs sung as only Elvis can, including Sweet Caroline, and Little Green Apples.

Who is Bill Shelley?
Bill Shelley began shooting film professionally in the 1970’s, capturing bands like the Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, the.Stray Cats, and Twisted Sister in small clubs before they rose to fame. Rap group Public Enemy (known at the time as Spectrum City) started working with Shelley and eventually asked him to join their cablevision television studio. He directed their Andreus 13’s videos “Paranoid,” “Channel Zero,” and “Conspiracy,” among others.
Bill Shelley started Shelley Archives Inc. in 1985. In 1993, his work with Readers Digest Entertainment (the three part series “Legends of Comedy”) was nominated for an Emmy in 1993.
Shelley Archives has more than 100,000 reels of original 35mm and 16mm films in its archive and over 10,000 hours of rare concerts, television shows (from Europe & USA), promos, interviews, out-takes, and home movies. Cinema Arts Centre has been encouraging Bill Shelley’s efforts since 2009 and provide his company a home base and a loyal and enthusiastic audience.
