Dreams are birthed when passion meets opportunity. Ask Erin Mahone about this statement and it will bring a tear to her eyes. Her dream was birthed in 2011 and its name is The Arts Help.
We find our “passion” through life experiences. Erin’s life experiences were not uncommon in today’s modern world: “broken” family with many moves, divorces, mental illness, neglect, and lots of uncertainty. Her teen years involved drug abuse and aimlessness. Even when she wanted her family to let her self-destruct, they didn’t. Looking through her dad’s eyes, she knew she could accomplish anything.
Although Erin had a troubled childhood, she found her purpose at the age of 11 as a performer. At 13 she sang the National Anthem for the Richmond Braves. As a singer, writer, and actor in Richmond and New York, she has performed at Theatre IV, Richmond Theatre Company for Children, Mystery Dinner Playhouse and fundraisers for the disability community (The Arc of VA and Special Olympics).
Her passion for performing sparked a flame which ignited a roaring fire: a deep and overwhelming passion to help and empower others through drama and therapeutic drama classes for children, adolescents, and young adults of all abilities.
In 2011, against all odds, Erin’s dream came to life through the generosity of other professionals in Richmond. When her passion met opportunity, The Arts Help was birthed.
The Arts Help is dedicated to making creativity accessible to heal, empower, and educate anyone with the inclination to see the world with expanded vision, or to feel differently about their lives and their individual ability to influence others in a positive way.
It is dedicated to supporting young artists, making the arts and creative expression accessible for anyone who is called to imagine. They help people of all abilities to develop creativity, communication, confidence, healthy coping and social skills, physical and emotional awareness. Educational scripts of honoring diversity and respecting differences, healthy lifestyles, bullying etc. are presented in schools and organizations. Erin has taken her life experiences to a new level of helps.
The Arts Help is the dream of Erin Mahone; a performing artist and mental health professional who envisions a world in which creative expression is valued as an essential facet of the human condition.
Erin is an extraordinary person in Richmond. Instead of saying, “I can’t because of my childhood experiences,” she says, “I can because of my childhood experiences.” When her passion met opportunity, she became the lifeline for people of all abilities to live their dreams of performing.
