In these turbulent times where folks are trying to find jobs, it’s easy to lose motivation and get down if you aren’t seeing results appear in your time frame. Here are some suggestions for staying the course and helping you to stay upbeat in these tough times:
Find inspiration. Talk to others who have been where you are and are now, out of it. Maybe they have the job they wanted or went back to school or started their own business. Be sure to be that inspiration for someone else when you get where you are going, too!
Have balance in your day. You may not have a job right now but if you did, you wouldn’t be working at it from the moment you get up until you go to sleep. You need balance. Looking for work is sometimes harder than having a job so you need to have balance all the more. Be sure to take breaks from your search. Make sure to eat breakfast and lunch. Spend time with the family and enjoy your time with them!
Exercise. There isn’t enough to say about the value of exercise. It helps break up the day. It helps your body fight the stress and toxins that build up from the stress. It gives you energy and can help with the overall outlook of the day. Give yourself every opportunity with a healthy body and mind.
Accept that some days may be better than others. Some days, there may seem like a hundred possible jobs and other days, one or two. Stay with it and ride the tide. It’s not easy. Sometimes you may feel down but remember that tomorrow, there could be ten more and one of them just might be yours!
Check out support groups or on-line groups. Sometimes it feels like you are going through it alone. It’s great to have support at home and to have friends encourage you. It is also helpful to have others in the same boat root you on as you do for them. If there is a group in your area, it may help to get out of the house and away from the computer for a short while and come back with a fresh attitude.
These are tough times. No one is denying that. And in these uncertain times, anyone at any moment could be in your shoes. Others have been there and made it through so it is definitely possible. Too, you offer a unique position of being able to help someone else when it’s their turn. So in this time of struggle, there are definitely opportunities for us all to help each other. Reach out for their support and be ready to give it to someone else so you can keep the cycle of motivation going!
