On Monday, former Ron Paul staffer Eric Dondero made news around the world with a statement saying that while Ron Paul is not a racist, he does not support the state of Israel in any way.
Dondero also ran against Ron Paul – briefly – in the 2008 congressional election.
How did the ‘cult’ of Ron Paul react to the news that someone who once worked for Paul actually decided to run against him?
By creating a Facebook group called, “Eric Dondero is slime!”
According to the page’s description:
This thread is dedicated to the epitome of the disgruntled ex-employee who is desperate to enact his unjust revenge on his boss, Eric Dondero.
For those of you who do not know him, Eric Dondero is a former staffer for Congressman Ron Paul, who in case you don’t know is running for President. Although he claims he quit over his disagreement with Paul over the Iraq War (he is quite pro-war, which …for a slef-described “libertarian” is an odd position to take considering that the vast majority of libertarians are anti-war), the truth is that he was fired due to laziness.
The page, created in 2007, was active for a while, but was largely dormant for about 6 months.
But since Dondero’s expose Monday, the page has seen considerable activity.
Among the comments are these gems:
He posted a comment on Hot Air supporting Romney 2 weeks ago. Recent polls show Ron Paul ahead of Romney in Iowa. And now this slim is posting smears against Ron Paul. Coincidence?
Dondero was fired a long time ago. He has been a Ron Paul hater ever since. He is the likely the writer of the “newsletters”
This pedophile is a spineless slug. I hope he doesn’t have any family; I would be so ashamed to be associated with the a*****e.
How dare this man attempt to sabotage the bright future that Ron Paul has evisioned for our country over being angry at getting fired? What an ass!
This is what passes for “liberty” in the minds of some Paul supporters – one is free to believe anything, as long as it does not go against anything Ron Paul says or does. The behavior is odd, considering Paul supporters usually support whistleblowers. Google Bradley Manning, who Paul called a patriotic hero for leaking classified information to Wikileaks.
But apparently, some whistleblowers are more worthy of support than others.
Normally, this type of behavior is seen by the more radical fringe leftists, not by conservative Republicans.
One can tell a lot about a candidate by the type of supporters he/she attracts. Americans have already elected a cult figure into office, and it certainly does not need another.
