Although the Friday favorites edition is sliding into Saturday morning (for this week only), it is still in time as a quick tip for the weekend’s festivities.
Ever drank a little too much wine or eat an over abundance of salty foods the night before a special occasion and woke up looking like you just went a few rounds in the boxing ring? You diligently searched your home for cucumbers or teabags (OH NO! You don’t drink tea) and came up empty. Your regular eye cream will not suffice and the ice cubes you have been rubbing underneath your eyes have numbed your face and you are now successfully prepped for root canal. Instead of decreasing the swelling under the eyes, they are now red from the cold.
A quick fix for swollen, tired and puffy eyes is a little secret from the modeling world. Preparation H Ointment, yes Preparation H, the hemorrhoid cream, reduces the swelling of the under eye area. First, flush the body with as much water as can be tolerated or held before the event. Salty foods and alcohol cause the body to retain fluids and water is the best natural detoxifier.
After cleansing and moisturizing apply Preparation H by dabbing it to the under eye area. DO NOT get the cream into the eye or use the applicator tip to apply. Instead, remove the tip and use the cream from the inside of the tube to ensure it has not touched any part of the rectal area as infections can occur. Be sure to wash the hands after removing the tip and before applying the cream.
Two of the active ingredients of Preparation H Maximum Strength Pain Relief are a vasoconstrictor and a local anesthetic, which help to reduce inflammation. Preparation H Cream is available at any Long Island CVS, Walmart or Target. A tube runs around $7.50 at the CVS in the Merrick Mall Shopping Center.
Preparation H is not to be used as a daily eye cream. The above is a quick fix for puffy eyes and should not be mistaken for medical advice, as the author is a licensed cosmetologist, not a medical professional.
