**This week is Illinois Winter Weather Preparedness Week!**
All Hazards NOAA Weather Radio | Live Chicago Weather Updates | A Wind Advisory just issued for the Chicago metro area until 6pm CST this evening! Wind gust as high as 45 mph! | A Gale Warning is in effect through late Friday night
Millions of Americans woke up this morning with a markedly cooler airmass. Temperatures this morning from the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes region to the Gulf Coast were 10-25 degrees cooler than temperatures from Wednesday morning.
The rush of cool air from Canada could also be blamed for the series of severe weather that have taken place across the Ohio Valley and Southeast regions.
Waking up to temperatures in the 20s with winds chills in the teens and only warming into the mid to upper 30s, temperatures here in Chicago were the coolest since late March. With a high temperature of 36 degrees at O’Hare, it was officially our first sub-40 degree day in 7 months since April 19, 38 degrees.
Temperatures, however, are headed back up in this progressive, roller-coaster weather pattern that we are in. High pressure to our east and a winter storm to our northwest will turn winds out of the south which will advect warmer air into the region Friday and Saturday.
Beginning overnight, temperatures will climb. By Friday afternoon, temperatures will reach to upper 40s to lower 50s.
It will be a windy day tomorrow. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph. A Gale Warning is already in effect for the waters of Lake Michigan through Friday night.
