This year marks the 51st Annual Georgetown Christmas Market in the historic mining town of Georgetown, Colorado. For two weekends beginning on Saturday, December 3, the town’s 6th Street is transformed into a century-old outdoor European marketplace, complete with chestnuts roasting and horse-drawn wagon riding, St. Nicholas wearing traditional dress, Santa Lucia processing through the streets, and carolers wearing Victorian costumes. The town is decorated with Christmas greenery and lights. This holiday event has been a Christmas tradition for generations. Admission to the Christmas Market is free.
Denver-based Colorado Wine Country Tours has planned a Georgetown Christmas Market and Wine Tasting Tour on Saturday, December 3, from 1pm-6pm. You are invited to let someone else do the driving and enjoy an afternoon of fun at the Market as well as wine tasting and appetizers at the Canyon Wind Cellars tasting room in Georgetown. Canyon Wind Cellars is a second-generation Colorado winery founded in Palisade in 1991 by former Georgetown resident Norman Christianson and his wife, Ellen. Their first wines – Chardonnay, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon – were produced in 1996. Today son Jay Christianson and his wife, Jennifer, manage the vineyards and winery, and its award-winning estate-grown wines: four white, one rosé, seven red, one dessert, and one library wine. Their elegant reserve wine, IV, and the fruit-forward, oaky Anemoi Boreas, are premium Bordeaux varietals that were recently introduced. Canyon Wind is currently the only Colorado winery that is growing all five Bordeaux grapes: Caberbet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, and Petite Verdot.
In addition to the Christmas Market festivities, Georgetown’s many quaint shops will be open, offering Christmas ornaments and decorations, Victorian items, art, rare books, jewelry, clothing, antiques, and gifts. Local restaurants and food vendors will offer edibles of all kinds. The Hamill House Museum, Hotel de Paris Museum, and Georgetown Energy Museum will be open for holiday tours.
This Saturday’s Georgetown Christmas Market and Wine Tasting Tour departs from the parking lot at the RTD Alameda Light Rail Station. The cost is $59 per person and includes motorcoach transportation to and from Georgetown, admission to the Hamill House Museum, a private wine tasting with appetizers at the Canyon Wind Cellars tasting room, and bottled water and snacks for the journey. This tour is limited to people aged 21 and over.
