On Tuesday night, the long-awaited episode of “Glee” entitled “The First Time” is finally here — and with that in mind, Ryan Murphy is opening up about the decision to have an episode that generates such controversy from the get-go.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the subject, the show’s co-creator is saying that the episode really just presented them with an interesting opportunity:
“We were talking about it [in the writers’ room] like, ‘Why shouldn’t [Kurt and Blaine] lose their virginity at the same time?’ Everybody has seen a straight couple losing their virginity, but has anyone dovetailed the gay and straight stories together and given them equal weight? That seemed like an exciting choice and a new thing … [When I told the cast about this], the first thing they all said was ‘Do we have to go on diets?’”
Murphy also said that he gets a plethora of comments from people (in particular gay men) asking for a Kurt / Karofsky hookup at some point — and Murphy says that he would even consider it:
“We’re going to write something about it. I do think the reason why he attacked Kurt so viciously is he he had all these feelings that he didn’t know what to do with. I am interested in that, like what happens if he finally got to express that in the right way.”
As we reported earlier, Chris Colfer said that Karofsky isn’t in any other episodes that have been already shot — so we will be waiting for a while.
