Once again, the GOP has kicked millions of unemployed middle class Americans right in the gut to achieve their goal of sabotaging the U.S. economy. They have shown once again they will go to any lengths to make President Obama a one-term president including laying the blame on him for the results of their own acts of legislative sabotage.
Even a blind man can see that the GOP agenda is a calculated campaign to sabotage President Obama and any jobs Bill that he and the Democrats put forth. Throughout the President’s term, the Republicans have filibustered and prevented Bills from being passed which might have created jobs. Instead of working to create jobs as they promised they would do during the mid-term elections, they continue to waste time on nonsense and unnecessary legislation such as reaffirming the ‘In God We Trust’ motto? Give us a break already, the American people know what you’re up to.
The “Rebuild America Jobs Bill” would have created thousands of construction jobs by investing $50 billion in rebuilding America’s roads, bridges, and airports. The Democrats came up nine votes short yesterday in passing the bill. Not one single Republican voted for the bill. Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell objected to the bill because it would put a new tax on America’s richest 345,532 people – all .2% of them. The same Mitch McConnell who one year ago made the following statement: “Our top priority should be to deny President Obama a second term”.
The GOP clearly detests this president more than they care about 72% of Americans who support the bill. The GOP detests this president more than they care about the 99.8% who would not be affected by the tax increase in the bill, which by the way leaves the first million dollars untouched and then it’s a .7% increase after that.
Besides trying to destroy the Obama presidency, the Republican Party has shown once again they have no use for the working class in this country as they engage in economic terrorism with the lives of 99.8% of Americans. The GOP has successfully laid off teachers, fire fighters, cops and yesterday they voted to lay off construction workers. All in the interest of protecting oil company executives and oil subsidies, CEOs and corporate tax loopholes, and their Tea Party pledges of no tax increases to Grover Norquist.
If the GOP succeeds and Democrats and left leaning Independents stay home in November of 2012, the Republicans will not only win the presidency but will also win the House and the Senate. If the poor and middle class, Democrats, Independents, and any rational thinking American – who sees that the growing wealth and wage disparity gaps in this country have been largely driven by trickle-down economics and the Bush tax cuts – stay home, every American will pay the price for many years to come. What is at stake? Cuts or abolishment of Social Security, unemployment insurance, labor safety laws, child labor laws, the minimum wage, Medicare and Medicaid, collective bargaining, woman’s health issues, environmental protection, civil rights, voting rights, the Department of Education and any chance of affordable healthcare. Any chance for the American Dream. That’s what’s at stake.
