I’m a fan of David Newman, not only his Bhakti Kirtan chanting but also his spirit and willingness to see the divine in everything. David’s chants bring my level of self-awareness of the divine, love and community into sharper focus. I tend to get lost in the melodies and that haunting voice.
With more FaceBook friends than allowable and an international following for his music and service to humanity, David has built a global following all joining in his chant for love, devotion, grace and surrender.
Definitely a busy man with two CDs currently in production; travel and performances across the globe; continued involvement raising money for the StayStrong Project; writing and now fatherhood, David continues to find avenues in which he can “spread the good vibes.” For the first time, David is producing a CD in Philadelphia with Bill Moriarity due to be released soon. Working without a record label on this venture, David will be launching his own kickstarter financing initiative shortly. Additionally, David is remixing some of his older chants for a younger generation.
David began chanting in the early 1990s. Writing music has become a part of his spiritual practice while he focuses on “bringing something forward to touch and help heal”. Not to say that writing music and lyrics always flows easily, David shares that there is sometimes “angst” as part of the creative process when creating something beautiful.
Typcially David sits in front of his altar and begins to chant, first in a prayerful manner before a composition begins. Love from the divine and in such an inspirational manner.
David’s kirtan chanting has become part of my spiritual yoga practice especially during meditation and shivasana.
As David chants:
It is time for kindness, compassion and care
Time to take action be bold and aware
Time to move forward while your vision is clear
Listen to your heart
Tell me what you hear
Truly, a life message for us all.
