“Project Gunwalker” was front page headline news in today’s edition of The Arizona Republic. “ATF gun probe: Behind the fall of Operation Fast and Furious,” by reporter Dennis Wagner includes quotes from telephone interviews with Mike Vanderboegh of Sipsey Street Irregulars and this correspondent.
Wagner got our sentiments generally right, although something was apparently misunderstood or lost in translation, as neither Vanderboegh nor myself believe that legal multiple purchasers should be arrested as this story seems to imply. Also, the significant differences between Fast and Furious and Operation Wide Receiver have been pointed out numerous times in this column and elsewhere, and much of our argument corroborating evidence of a “gun control” motive as opposed to the “botched sting” theory did not make the final cut.
That said, there’s a lot of good information—we have been in off-and-on contact with Wagner behind the scenes since early January, and the interview upon which this report is based took place in mid-October. All in all, getting major press—and essentially fair press, because despite any differences in interpretation I’ve found Wagner to be sincere and serious—is a good thing.

The Chore Boy menace
In another development, WorldNetDaily, the very highly-trafficked news website, is featuring a report on Gun Rights Examiners Chore Boy/silencer story as its main headline this morning. Again, this correspondent provided background in a telephone interview with reporter Bob Unruh, who went on to tie this latest ridiculous ATF ruling in with previous ones.

Unfortunately, a lingering cold developed over the Thanksgiving holiday, and a resulting bad case of laryngitis that makes me sound like a cross between Andy Devine and Froggy from The Little Rascals, precludes my appearing tonight on Armed American Radio with Mark Walters. I asked him to convey my regrets that the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.
No worries. He’ll handle these latest developments himself tonight, and I asked him to make sure the audience knows how important his show is at recognizing and getting word out to blaze a media trail when almost everyone else is asleep at the switch. It’s one reason why I urge his listeners to help promote his show. It’s also why I chide regular readers to share links from here and from Sipsey Street Irregulars—we need to all join in banging pots and pans so that ultimately, major media can’t help but notice, and the word then makes it to a much larger audience.
Listen to Armed American Radio tonight at 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm Eastern/ 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Pacific.

Note to newcomers to this story: “Project Gunrunner” is the name ATF assigned to its Southwest Border Initiative to interdict gun smuggling to Mexico. “Project Gunwalker” is the name I assigned to the scandal after allegations by agents that monitored guns were allowed to fall into criminal hands on both sides of the border through a surveillance process termed “walking” surfaced.
