By far the best place to stay in New Orleans is Marquette House, which also happened to be in the best location for Voodoo. It also was the best price. I made my reservation for a room situated for 15 people, for $16 a night, although luckily despite it being the week of Voodoo and Halloween I only had to share with two others. However if you would care not to share a bathroom and sleeping space there were private rooms available for only $30 a night. Another cool thing about this place is that the location really took you into a community full of real people, instead of the areas that are more geared towards tourists. The streets were beautifully tree lined and the traffic slower. Instead of the smell of gasoline from a nearby interstate I smelled the true southern aroma of Honeysuckle form the house next door. Every evening that faint smell I noticed during the day seemed to grow stronger as the night grew older. It would be around the time that I made it back from a long day of music that it would greet me like the smell of home as I walked through the court yard to my room. It was clean and the people were great! Overall it was a fantastic place to stay and I would highly recommend it to anyone traveling to New Orleans and wants to see the real people side of New Orleans and not what is marketable to tourist.
